Nebraska > Governor Jim Pillen signed a property tax relief package into law after a contentious 17-day special legislative session. The package includes budget cuts, an inflationary cap on budget increases for cities and counties, and $750 million for a property tax relief fund. However, much of the relief will come from an existing tax credit program, limiting its impact. The Governor acknowledged the package as a starting point and promised to seek additional relief in the future. Read more at https://lnkd.in/gqVgdPbM.

According to the Tax Foundation’s Facts & Figures 2024, Wyoming ranks second for the lowest tax burden at 7.5% and 37th for lowest property taxes paid as a percentage of owner-occupied housing value at 0.55%. This coincides with Wyoming Taxpayers Association’s most recent report, The Cowboy Family, which aims to deliver transparency regarding what individual benefits the Wyoming tax structure provides. Wyoming citizens are fortunate to live in a place where the average family of four pays $4,429.08 in taxes and receives $61,263.44 in state and local services, the association said in a news release. Wyoming residents only pay a fraction of the cost of services received thanks to Wyoming’s mineral industries and investments, which contribute a substantial amount toward the remaining portion of the cost of government services. Why are Texas property taxes so high? Texas property taxes are calculated by multiplying your property’s county-appraised value by the tax rates set by local entities. Your property taxes fund essential local services such as public schools, infrastructure maintenance, and public safety initiatives. Texas’ growing population and lack of income tax drive up property taxes as the need for more infrastructure grows. Potential errors in property value assessments also contribute to higher property taxes by overvaluing properties. According to recent reports, the increase in the deduction will only be a doubling to $20,000 (and maybe just for married couples). With realized capital gains taxed at ordinary rates, and state income tax rates as high as 13%, “Wall Street South” Will continue to expand exponentially.
