We all do it… 😳
sniff our shirt to see if we can get away with wearing it one more day 😂😂😂
But what if your clothes just stayed fresh?
portance is making that a reality.

we all know that fashion has a long way to go to become #sustainable or circular, let alone regenerative.
It's a huge task.
and a lot of big questions, like:
👉 Should we be innovating around #synthetic or #natural fibers?
(and how does that affect long-term problems, like the #waste produced when clothes are thrown away)
Or:
👉 How can we get not only brands but customers to engage proactively with the DPP?
(and with quality, supply chain and fair wages issues around fashion in general?)
What fascinates me about portance is that it addresses so many of these issues from so many angles all at once!
Go #portance !!

Think before you throw away clothing, household products, textiles overall. Donate or resell. Poshmark and OfferUp make it easy. Donation pick ups exist in your neighborhood. Tax time has a specific line for clothing donations.
Invest in essentials! They carryover each season and rarely go out of style. We need to do better in this industry. By 2050, we are still alive and passing the baton to our children. Fast fashion is here to stay! It doesn’t mean we toss it and let it pile up in the landfills.
Calling all fashion brands, address the waste problem now. Look hard at your product lifecycle and own the final step. It will tell you what not to produce going forward and possibly that the real problem is your first step. 🙄

Fast fashion - how did we get there?
Originally, clothes were meant to keep you warm or protect you from the elements
Over time, it became a way to express ourselves - fashion was born
We have now moved in an era of ultra fast fashion with fashion cycles counted in weeks rather than seasons boosted by social media such as TikTok and Instagram
The amount of resources consumed and waste produced is snowballing:
👚 Clothes are only worn a couple times and fall apart after a few washing cycles
🌊 35% of all microplastics in the ocean come from laundering synthetic fibers
🏭 30-40% of the clothes are never sold as they go out of fashion
👣 Textiles are already roughly 10% of our carbon footprint and this is expected to double by 2050
How can we live happy lives without wearing the latest fashion gadget?

Our journey from protection to expression has morphed into a culture of disposable trends, fuelled by social media. But as the waste piles up and resources dwindle, we need to rethink and radically change our relationship with clothing.

The evolution of clothing from a basic necessity to a form of self-expression has led to the rise of fast fashion in contemporary society. The rapid pace of fashion cycles, fueled by social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram, has transformed the industry into a relentless churn of trends and consumption. However, the consequences of this phenomenon are becoming increasingly apparent, particularly in terms of resource consumption, waste generation, and environmental impact.
The alarming statistics regarding the sustainability of fast fashion highlight the pressing need for a reevaluation of our consumption habits. The cycle of purchasing clothes that are worn only a few times before falling apart, coupled with the significant contribution of synthetic fibers to microplastic pollution in the ocean, underscores the detrimental effects of our current fashion practices. Moreover, the high percentage of unsold clothing that quickly goes out of fashion further exacerbates the issue of waste production within the industry.
As textiles already account for a considerable portion of our carbon footprint, the projected doubling of this impact by 2050 emphasizes the urgency of addressing the environmental repercussions of fast fashion. It is imperative for individuals to reflect on their consumption patterns and consider alternative approaches to fashion that prioritize sustainability, longevity, and ethical production practices.
The question posed regarding living happy lives without constantly chasing the latest fashion trends invites a deeper exploration of the values and priorities that underpin consumer behavior. By fostering a mindset of conscious consumption, promoting longevity in wardrobe choices, and supporting sustainable practices within the fashion industry, individuals can contribute to mitigating the negative impact of fast fashion on both the environment and society at large.
In conclusion, the phenomenon of fast fashion serves as a poignant reflection of the interconnectedness between consumer culture, environmental sustainability, and personal well-being. Addressing the root causes of excessive consumption and embracing a more mindful approach to fashion can pave the way towards a more sustainable and fulfilling lifestyle for individuals and the planet alike.

The fast fashion industry churns out clothing at an unsustainable rate, with devastating impacts like massive waste, resource overconsumption, and microplastic pollution; we must find ways to express ourselves stylishly that don't rely on buying the latest short-lived fashion fad.
Rather than fast fashion, we need a shift to circular models where clothes are better quality, worn longer, and recycled at end of life.

Mind Numbing and Heart Aching💔
We are over producing and over consuming..
And generating so much of the waste.
Let’s choose to buy only clothes that we really need.
Let’s choose to keep the fashion trends aside.
Let’s choose to buy good quality, and long lasting clothes.
Let’s choose to minimise consumption.
Let’s choose to reduce the pressure on Mother Earth.
Let’s choose to provide a healthy & bright future to our children 🙌

#DPP is at the tip of everyone’s tongue in fashion… but Katy Perry seems to be taking it to the next level!
At the #VMAs in New York last week, Katy turned heads with a futuristic look, featuring a shredded white bralette, matching low-rise skirt and… nothing less than a QR code tattooed on her lower back.
The Digital Product Passport (DPP) is a transformative system in the fashion industry, designed to provide transparency throughout a garment's lifecycle. By attaching digital records to products, DPPs track details from sourcing materials to manufacturing, distribution, and even disposal or recycling. This data empowers consumers to make informed, sustainable decisions while helping the industry move toward a circular economy 🌿
Brands, however, are struggling to get their data ready to be shared with customers. If you ask us, Katy Perry looks more than ready. Wonder what's behind her QR code? 👀
