At Clarendon, we're committed to taking action! We donated and planted a tree for each employee, tailored to their geographical region through One Tree Planted. It’s #WorldEnvironmentDay and this year’s theme of ecosystem restoration has never been more relevant.   Today, up to 40 percent of the planet’s land has been degraded, affecting half of the world’s population. Without urgent and collective action, more of our planet will continue to suffer the devastating effects of drought, desertification, and land degradation.   CHEP is standing up to be part of the change. Whether it’s backing forest restoration in Zambia, leading a coalition to regenerate a deforested region in Mexico, or engaging our people in the movement for change, we are putting our efforts into projects that will create lasting environmental, economic, and social value.   Our Land. Once a thriving forest, Purana Faredua faced devastating drought and deforestation. Together with The Rocket Foundation, The Flow Partnership, and the local community, we constructed rainwater-harvesting ponds to address these challenges. Last week, the Scottish Government announced the end of its ambitious targets for cutting greenhouse gas emissions. This doesn’t mean hitting the brakes on climate action - we should be stepping up our efforts to reduce emissions, store carbon and adapt to a changing climate. ⚠️ As climate breakdown accelerates and nature loss continues, we face an unprecedented threat to our way of life and the future of our children. Nature is our life support system - and it’s in trouble. 🌱 But there is hope. Rewilding offers us a chance to restore our natural world, enrich communities and build resilience against the challenges we know the future holds. 🌳 Nature is our best and most powerful ally in the race to net zero. Yes, we need to rapidly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. But we also need to soak up the excess carbon in the atmosphere and store it safely. Healthy forests, peatlands, kelp beds and other ecosystems can store carbon for us - if we protect and restore them. 📒The Scottish Government has already announced a bundle of policies to help Scotland speed up its transition to net zero, including more pilots for peatland restoration and land use partnerships. These are welcome - but they won’t be enough. We’re calling on the Scottish Government to declare Scotland a Rewilding Nation, committing to 30% nature recovery across land and sea.
