❗ Are you prepared for the coming EU Deforestation Regulation? Companies must act now to ensure deforestation-free and low-carbon supply chains, making standards like Donau Soja essential. Our compliance with national legislation and traceability to the plot are already part of the Donau Soja and Europe Soya standards. 💡 Those who choose Donau Soja and Europe Soya to meet the criteria of the EUDR can also benefit from the proven significantly lower carbon footprint - up to 90% lower - associated with Donau Soja and Europe Soya certified soya. The standard requirements of Donau Soja and Europe Soya go far beyond the EUDR in terms of deforestation- and conversion-free cultivation, with a cut-off date of 2008. ➡️ This means that Donau Soja and Europe Soya help to provide the necessary information for the #EUDR information requirements as well as the Due Diligence Statement. AFSA, representing 41 African farmers’ organizations, NGO networks and faith-based institutions, has issued a statement concerning the African Fertilizer and Soil Health Action Plan 2023-2033, advocating for sustainable agriculture in Africa. Read the Action Plan: https://ow.ly/EG4B50RA9ls AFSA emphasizes that the current 10-year action plan lacks the involvement of farmers, civil society organizations, and agroecology practitioners, who are important in shaping sustainable agricultural practices. Agroecology, a holistic approach that combines traditional wisdom with modern science, stands as an alternative to synthetic fertilizers. The reliance on expensive, imported fertilizers burdens African nations economically and limits investment in local, sustainable agricultural solutions. It's time to prioritize resilient food systems that empower local communities and promote environmental stewardship. 💬 As we conclude our Insider Quotes series, we are excited to feature one more quote from Dr. Susanne Winter, Director Forest Policy at WWF Deutschland: 🌿 "The EUDR presents an opportunity for EU farmers and EU soya. EU farmers can relatively easily upload the relevant information in the EUDR information system and demonstrate compliance. This provides EU farmers a competitive advantage over imports from high-risk countries and serves as a kind of assurance for EUDR compliance for soya buyers." 📌 Find out how Donau Soja certification helps EU farmers to take advantage of these opportunities and help meet compliance with the EU Deforestation Regulation. #Argentina has shipped an incredible 46,000 tons of deforestation-free soy to the #European Union! 🌾♻️ VISEC technology was jointly developed by CIARA, The Nature Conservancy (TNC), and Tropical Forest Alliance (TFA), with support from the Land Innovation Fund, backed by Cargill and managed by Chemonics International. The tool contains information from more than 60,000 farmers who are reviewed annually for compliance with European and Argentine forest protection laws and was used to support the export process. Importers can also access and provide certificates to confirm that commodities are not tied to #Deforestation. Read more about the tool here: https://ow.ly/lABp50R7IiZ

Agroecology principles...from field to "fork" through awareness raising among the final consumer.
🌿 Agroecology – the application of ecological and socially responsible principles to farming – may be the buzzword of our time, but it has been embedded into Fairtrade’s ethos since we were founded more than 30 years ago. 👨🏽🌾 As farmers around the world face an ever-increasing threat to their livelihoods from the impacts of climate change, sustainable agriculture that is rooted in agroecological principles can help farmers become more resilient and better adapt. It is no longer possible to look at food, livelihoods, health and the management of natural resources separately. Everything is interconnected. So a holistic approach naturally makes sense to address complex and interdependent challenges. Earlier this year, our CEO Sandra Uwera Murasa spoke to Euronews about how Fairtrade works with producers to transition to agroecology through its sustainable agricultural policy. Our latest Annual Report showed that as of 2023, close to 2/3 of Fairtrade's producer organisations have been trained on good agroecological practices. She also called for policies and incentives that support the transition to agroecology globally. Read the full article 👉 https://bit.ly/4d25Ppr #agroecology #sustainableagriculture #futureisfair

Cuba's journey towards organic farming 🌿 Despite years of economic isolation and several challenges, Cuba has transformed its land degradation challenge into an opportunity for sustainable growth. After two hurricanes devastating part of the country in early 2008, Cuba introduced policies to revive its unproductive landscapes. With the support of the Global Environment Facility, UNDP, UN Environment Programme and FAO, the country shifted from high-input monoculture to low-input, organic methods of growing diverse crops and livestock. Meet Onay Martínez Díaz, one of the 12,000 farmers who took part in the initiative. Today, he applies principles such as green manuring, mulching, bio-fertilizers, bio-pesticides, intercropping, and mixed agro-forestry on his 22-HA organic farm, allowing him to supply several markets over much longer periods during the year. ➡️ Learn more about Onay’s story and the importance of investing in resilient and diverse food systems: https://lnkd.in/d9SAu-Zc #SustainableFarming #FoodSystems

Biomethane from manure is more harmful than you think and its current upscale comes with negative social and environmental consequences 👎 Why? To produce biogas (and then biomethane) from manure, you need a lot of animals. To feed them, the EU's livestock sector is heavily dependent on protein feed imports, especially soybeans. But these are closely linked to deforestation and human rights violations in the Global South. 💡 Want to read more about our findings and recommendations? Find the full report here: https://lnkd.in/dgWe827x #NoBullshit #StopTheBiomethaneRush
