This is Briket 🪵🥔 !
Did you know that in wood production, about 60% of the sawn timber is used for the main product (e.g. boards) and 40% is waste (sawdust and shavings, chips and bark)?
And in the agri-food sector: 28% of potatoes grown for consumption in Switzerland end up in the trash before even reaching the supermarkets.
Based on this observation, I decided to develop a product that could be manufactured in the place where the raw material is created and to use only “waste” from local industries.
By mixing sawdust (fiber) with the right dose of potato (starch), we have a result that solidifies after being pressed and dried.
After more than 30 tests, we found the most solid and optimal recipe.
In a context of rising energy prices and the increase in the use of wood stoves, it seemed interesting to me to create useful furniture, in harmony with nature and which could be used as pellets.
Result of this search: the Briket stool was unveiled at the Salone del Mobile in Milan with the NOV Gallery and also during the Design Days in Lausanne thanks to Pro Helvetia.
It will soon be presented in various exhibitions.

What I found interesting in this video is the offcut material be used in a fabrication process as fuel to heat the ovens.
On top of that, I see how the cutting board in my kitchen had been made.
