Day 11: Youth Leadership Theme: Mobilizing the Next Generation Youth leadership is a powerful catalyst for change. On this day of the 16 Days of Activism, we emphasize the critical role young people play in advancing the fight against Gender-Based Violence (GBV). Mobilizing the next generation is not only about empowering the youth but also about equipping them with the tools, knowledge, and support to drive sustainable change. Young leaders bring fresh perspectives, creativity, and energy to the fight against GBV. By actively engaging them in advocacy, policymaking, and community action, we foster a culture of equality, accountability, and empowerment. Youth-led initiatives are instrumental in addressing the root causes of violence, challenging harmful norms, and creating inclusive spaces where all voices are valued. As we highlight the importance of youth leadership today, let us remember that meaningful change starts with inclusivity. Bridging the gap between generations is essential to ensure no one is left behind. Together, youth and experienced advocates can create a united front to end GBV and promote justice for all. #16DaysOfActivism #YouthLeadership #MobilizeTheNextGeneration #EndGBV #EmpoweredYouth #DonyaJusticeNetworkKenya #BreakingBarriers

Many of us are alarmed and angry as communities across the country experience violence, racism, and riots. We uphold inclusivity, equity and diversity at Research in Practice. We want to support sector colleagues who are working with people and communities affected by violence, in whatever small way we can. We’ve made learning resources on supporting practitioner wellbeing, trauma-informed leadership, and addressing systemic racism openly available. We hope that the resources are helpful in supporting practitioners across the children’s and adults’ workforce at this upsetting time https://ow.ly/r70q50SSNci #inclusion #equity #diverse #antiracist

Breaking the Chains of Systemic Oppression: A Call to Action In today’s world, conversations around privilege and systemic inequality can sometimes feel uncomfortable. But this discomfort is necessary. It's not about assigning blame for history; rather, it’s about acknowledging how historical systems of oppression still shape our present and taking responsibility for dismantling them. This isn’t a plea for apologies; it’s a call for action. Each of us, in some way, benefits from systems that were designed to favour certain groups over others—systems built long before our time but perpetuated by silence, inaction, and ignorance. We must ask ourselves: What are we doing to challenge these structures? Are we using our privilege to amplify marginalized voices, advocate for equity, and demand accountability? Let’s move beyond guilt or defensiveness and focus on meaningful change. Whether in the workplace, in education, or in our communities, let’s build a future that is just, equitable, and inclusive for all. How are you contributing to this effort in your field or community? Let’s exchange ideas and inspire action together. #SocialJustice #Inclusion #Equity #SystemicChange

"How do you know you're supporting the right people, in the right way?" It's vital to ensure that our resources— time, energy, platform, funding—are directed towards individuals and organisations making meaningful impact in line with the UN's SDGs. These 17 goals are something I learned about back in UCSC, and I revisit them weekly. Learn more about them here, if you're curious: https://buff.ly/3kiOo9n And if you find yourself wondering if you're going to be on the right side of history: 1. Listen to the survivors + those with lived experience 2. Act and understand with empathy 3. Check: 'Am I improving human rights, or damaging them?' 4. Be an intersectional feminist: Advocate for policies and practices that understand and address the needs of marginalised individuals and communities #Advocacy #SDGs #EmpoweringChange #Impact #ListenAndLearn #EmpathyInAction #HumanRightsAdvocacy #IntersectionalFeminism #SocialJustice #EthicalAdvocacy #GlobalGoals #ChangeMakers #SupportingImpact #Empowerment #AdvocateResponsibly

⭐️📄When thinking about First Nations organisations, communities and nations, representation is about who within the collective has a voice. Representation is important when thinking about 'your people'. From your board, management and staff- through to your members and wider community. Non-discriminatory, diverse and inclusive management, boards and groups perform better and solve problems more creatively than those that are less diverse. 🫱🏾🫲🏿 #RepresentationMatters #DiversityAndInclusion #FirstNations #InclusiveLeadership #StrongerTogether #CreativeSolutions

DEI is not just a moral imperative but also a business necessity. It drives innovation, enhances employee engagement, meets market needs, and ensures legal compliance. Eliminating DEI efforts would be counterproductive and harmful to both employees and businesses. Also, it would be a step backward for organizations and society as a whole. Embracing diversity, equity, and inclusion isn't just about meeting quotas or checking boxes, it’s about creating environments where everyone has the opportunity to succeed and thrive.

J is for Justice Justice goes beyond equality—it’s about actively addressing and dismantling systemic barriers to create true fairness for everyone. While equality ensures everyone gets the same resources or opportunities, justice recognizes that not everyone starts from the same place. It’s about leveling the playing field by addressing the root causes of inequity. Why does this matter in the workplace? Because achieving justice requires more than policies—it demands intentional actions: 🔍 Recognising disparities in how opportunities, resources, and power are distributed. 🤝 Listening to underrepresented voices to understand lived experiences and challenges. 💪 Taking accountability for building systems that don’t just treat everyone equally but ensure outcomes are equitable. Inclusion thrives when justice is prioritized. When organizations address inequities head-on, they create spaces where everyone can succeed, contribute, and belong. Justice isn’t just an ideal—it’s a cornerstone of sustainable diversity and inclusion efforts. 💡 Want to learn more about the language and concepts shaping today’s D&I conversations? Follow me as I continue my A-Z of D&I series, unpacking key terms and how they impact workplace culture. The survey's outcomes help participants gauge their understanding and application of racial equity competencies in their workplace and client interactions. 🔍 **Are You Ready to Embrace Real Change?** 🔍 Join us in taking a hard look at where we stand and what needs to be done. Let's move beyond performative gestures and commit to creating lasting, impactful change for BIPOC communities. 👉🏾 **Step Up. Speak Out.
