Preserving architectural icons can boost city attractiveness and foster sense of place for residents and visitors. Here in Tashkent brutalism is still present in many corners of the city, but the Hotel Uzbekistan is definitely a symbol of the modernism greatness and stands as one of the most unusual touristic attractions of the country. The conservation of its facade and interior spaces, from ballrooms to the small shops, is a challenge which can improve the touristic profile of a city less attractive than the pearls of the desert, but full of landmarks reminding the past of this corner of Central Asia

When UNESCO published its third list of World Heritage Sites in 1980, it included Asante traditional buildings in modern-day Ghana. “To the north-east of Kumasi, these are the last material remains of the great Asante civilization, which reached its high point in the 18th century. Since the dwellings are made of earth, wood and straw, they are vulnerable to the onslaught of time and weather. . . . “The buildings, their rich colour, and the skill and diversity of their decorations are the last surviving examples of a significant traditional style of architecture that epitomized the influential, powerful and wealthy Asante Kingdom of the late 18th to late 19th centuries. Asante Traditional Buildings reflect and reinforce a complex and intricate technical, religious and spiritual heritage” (https://lnkd.in/eRhTtGyF). Chiang Mai ranked 9th in 20 most beautiful cities in the world by Architectural Digest. Relaxation and major metropolises don’t typically go hand in hand, but Chiang Mai isn’t your typical city. Not only is this northern mountain municipality easy on the eyes—with its waterfalls, tropical forests, and botanic gardens—it’s also a major hub for ancient healing techniques. One of these practices is traditional Thai massage, which has been around for over 2,500 years and is rooted in Buddhist teachings. Considering that Chiang Mai is home to over 300 Buddhist temples, it follows that wellness is woven into the fabric of the city. #architecturaldigest #chiangmai #mostbeautifulcities https://lnkd.in/g2Mr93kQ

Why this bridge is circular? The Laguna Garzón Bridge is a unique circular bridge located in Uruguay. It was designed by the internationally renowned architect Rafael Viñoly Architects and was completed in 2015. What makes the Laguna Garzón Bridge unique is its innovative circular design. Instead of a traditional straight bridge, the unusual circular shape slow traffic and allows drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists to appreciate panoramic views to one of the most beautiful and pristine coastal landscapes in Uruguay. The bridge has a diameter of approximately 300 meters and is supported by a series of slender concrete pillars. The construction of the Laguna Garzón Bridge aimed to improve transportation and connectivity in the region, facilitating access to tourist destinations and enhancing economic development. It has become an iconic landmark in #Uruguay, representing the country's commitment to innovative and sustainable infrastructure. What do you think?
