Interesting article to read & something we need to look hard at After admitting the unintended consequences of these proficiency targets, Ontario adopted a smarter approach for better and fairer schools. Rather than continue the rhetoric of “raising the bar and closing the gap”, the education reforms became more collaborative and multifaceted, drawing in critical aspects of the education system, including whole curriculum, new pedagogies and assessments, shared leadership and community engagement. Canada now has one of the most successful education systems in the world
While Better and Fairer Schools Agreement may improve the learning outcomes of some students, it could make already-wide learning gaps even bigger. Trevor Cobbold and I explain it in this morning's Saturday Paper in detail. https://lnkd.in/g5gvkq-T

This checklist from Hanover Research offers two really important points for education leaders who want to positively impact student well-being that I don't think always get enough attention. ❗ You are likely already collecting A LOT of data. This checklist can help you look at it with a new lens and incorporate additional information you may not have a grasp on yet to inform selection and implementation of SEL programs and practices focused on well-being. ❗ Don't keep quiet about what you discover when evaluating the programs in place focused on well-being. Revisit who is in a position to play a role in your well-being programs and consider how best to share what you learn through evaluating. That means identifying where they "live" in the social media and digital space. Think far and wide...about those who play a part in funding, the day-to-day activities, uptake in and out of school, and beyond. https://lnkd.in/duXabKew #K12 #educationleadership #data #SEL #wellbeing

#SubTips of the day: Subbing During State Standardized Testing 😅 As many subs know, during the last quarter of the school year (March-May), schools set aside time for end-of-year testing required by their state. The grades and subject areas that are tested can differ by state, but if you are substituting at a school during a testing day, it is important to know what to expect! We've broken down the basics of helping classrooms during end-of-year state testing: https://lnkd.in/gpK-TwQh
