Repost : Money Matters with Nimi Ladies, when was the last time you checked your breasts? October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and it’s a perfect reminder to prioritize your breast health. We all hope for good health, but it’s wise to be prepared for the unexpected. A breast cancer diagnosis can be life-altering and the financial burden can be just as devastating. It’s crucial to be realistic and proactive. Remember, one serious illness can wipe out a lifetime of savings. Early detection through regular mammograms and clinical breast exams is key. At some point, you may need to rely on insurance. While it won’t eliminate the risks of illness or injury, it can help cushion the financial blow. The cost of coverage is significantly lower than the expenses you may face without it. If you don’t have the right insurance in place, make it a priority to address before the year ends. Today marks 16 years since I lost my father to testicular cancer. He was just 27 years old—young, full of life, and gone far too soon. His passing, just three days before Christmas, left an indelible mark on my life and serves as a painful reminder of the inequities in our healthcare system. The photo I’m sharing is of me and my father, a moment of love and connection that I cherish deeply. Testicular cancer is one of the most curable cancers, with a survival rate exceeding 90% if caught early. Yet my father didn’t have health insurance. What could have been a manageable diagnosis turned into a tragedy simply because he couldn’t access the care he needed. No one should have to lose a loved one to a preventable or treatable condition due to lack of access to healthcare. It’s a moral imperative for our nation to ensure universal healthcare for all, so that cost is never a barrier to life-saving treatments. As we reflect on the holiday season, let us also think about the countless families who face similar challenges and losses due to gaps in our system. Let’s work toward a future where everyone has the right to health, hope, and healing. If you or someone you know is experiencing symptoms or is overdue for a check-up, please take the time to prioritize your health. Early detection saves lives. In memory of my father, I remain committed to advocating for a healthcare system that leaves no one behind. #UniversalHealthcare #CancerAwareness #HealthcareForAll
