It's been a month of being practicing as a Licensed Clinical Psychologist. Here are a few of my takeaways so far: • Allow yourself a rest day. Very important, Komal Surana. • We, as psychotherapists are facilitators. We can't solve the problem or stressor but we can help in navigating it. • Read. Learn, unlearn, and relearn. • Do not take anything personally or professionally. Build on your skills. Learn from the client, by the client, and for the client. • As existential school puts, it's extremely vital to work on self and the barriers that you have to be able to be non judgemental and empathetic in the therapy setting. • Take human beings as human beings and as a system of society. LISTEN. • When you feel stuck, seek supervision from your seniors or mentors. And follow your nudge. • Unwind everyday for some time. • Patience is the key. I would be pleased to know about your insights and reflections. 🌷

In Attuned: A Psychologist's Reflections, I share my experiences as a clinical psychologist successfully helping my clients with a wide range of disorders ranging from relationship issues, body image struggle, to trauma, loneliness, drug and alcohol addiction, social media addiction, cultural and multicultural adjustment, and more. Examples of individual therapy and couples therapy are presented with vividness and empathy. The book opens with a short account of my experience as a clinical psychologist in a major metropolitan hospital setting, follows my transition into private practice, and shows the professional working life of a clinician by highlighting the stories of nine of my most riveting and evocative client cases. Tragic at some moments, humorous at others, the stories have the narrative flow of compelling popular fiction, but also contain comments and insights of deep relevance to the life of every reader. The book concludes with my reflections about my career, the therapeutic profession today, and the unique new challenges we all face in a contemporary environment in which we are immersed in social media, political hyperpolarization, and unprecedented, radically accelerated, social change. Attuned will help familiarize readers with the therapeutic experience, and help them decide whether and what kind of therapeutic support (or career) is the proper choice for them. Those interested as well in the human mind and heart, and in the stories of people facing significant personal challenges and overcoming them, will find Attuned a fascinating reading experience.

New online-first in the journal Canadian Psychology: 'Becoming a culturally responsive and socially just clinical supervisor' - Spowart, J. K. P., & Robertson, S. E. "Clinical supervisors are responsible for attending to and addressing issues of culture, diversity and advocacy so that they may better prepare new mental health practitioners to support populations from diverse backgrounds. Little is known about the training experiences and needs of clinical supervisors as they learn to carry out this important work. The present study addresses this gap in the literature by highlighting the experiences of supervisors-in-training and provides tangible education and training recommendations to help ensure more culturally responsive and socially just clinical supervision practices." https://lnkd.in/e3ZxRpX7
