Christmas 🎄🎁🦌🧑🎄🐻❄️☃️❄️ Here's my annual reminder to take care of yourself during the festive period ❤️ 1) Create and stick to your financial budget 💵💳 Christmas can easily become very expensive but it doesn't need to be. Your presence is more important than presents. 2) Gatherings 💃🕺can be overwhelming 🫣 It's ok to find a quiet space or leave the party early and head back to your "safe space" 🏠 It's also ok to decline an invitation if you don't feel up to it 🫥🚫 3) Look after yourself💆 Festivities can sometimes mean that we over indulge on food, drink and often don't get enough sleep. Try to stick to a routine, grab some fruit and veggies, drink plenty of water and get some exercise. 🍓🍊🍌🥤🚶🏻♀️🏃🏻🤸🏽🚵🏿♂️ 4) If you have prescription medicine, make sure you've got enough to get you through the festive period. 💉💊 5) Do something that you want to do 🏋🏾♀️🧘🏌️🏇🛍️📚🎤🎷🪡 It's your Christmas too so spend time doing something that brings you joy and peace. 🤗 6) If the festivities are overwhelming or you just need someone friendly to speak to, there are lots of organisations who can offer that service.👂👥

In South Africa we've got this spicy little saying "it's festive, it's fokol" which is a cheeky expression used to get away with some questionable behaviour and reasoning during the festive season or "ke Dezemba" as we call it... But let's remember to be nice. Get those priorities straight! ✦ Be realistic You can't be everywhere and you can't please everyone. Make sure that you're functioning within your personal limits and prioritise your nearest and dearest at this time; that includes yourself! ✦ Be kind The festive season is actually pretty stressful for most of us. So lead with kindness and plan things (like shopping) ahead of time so that you can execute everything smoothly and without unnecessary time pressure. ✦ It's fine to not be festive. Do not be bullied into having to be "on a beat" all the time. If this is your time to unplug and unwind then do that! ✦ Remember: not everyone celebrates Christmas. Just because it may feel like it, doesn't mean it's the actual case. Bear in mind that there are many people around the world who do not share in the Christmas festivities so be mindful of your expectations if you do. And with that, may the last few days of the 2024 season bring you peace, joy and love in abundance. Be safe and may the new year bring you all that your heart desires. After attending several weddings this month, surrounded by joy, laughter, and celebration, a recurring thought has been on my mind: What happens to all the leftover food at these grand events? India is known for its big fat weddings, with lavish spreads that symbolize abundance and hospitality. Yet, behind the scenes, a significant portion of this food often goes uneaten and is tragically wasted. In a country where 1 in 4 people face hunger daily, such wastage isn't just a missed opportunity—it’s a social and environmental concern. According to reports, nearly 40% of the food produced in India goes to waste annually, and wedding banquets are one of the largest contributors to this statistic. What Can Be Done? 1. Partner with food rescue organizations: NGOs like Feeding India by Zomato, Robin Hood Army, and Roti Bankwork tirelessly to collect surplus food and distribute it to the underprivileged. 2. Encourage mindful planning: Families and caterers can plan menus and guest lists more realistically to avoid over-preparation. 3. Composting and recycling initiatives: Caterers and venues can compost excess food waste to reduce the environmental impact. 4. Legal and policy support: Authorities like FSSAI and municipal bodies can incentivize food donation and penalize large-scale food wastage. A Small Step Can Make a Big Difference If every family commits to tying up with an NGO or carefully planning their event, millions of hungry people could benefit. Let’s take responsibility as individuals and as a society to ensure that celebrations don’t come at the cost of wastage. I urge wedding planners, caterers, and hosts to be more mindful and work together to bring a meaningful change. Let’s spread happiness not just among our guests but also among those who need it the most. Feeding India Robin Hood Army FSSAI Publication The Akshaya Patra Foundation Roti Bank Mumbai Narendra Modi Feeding India Zomato Feeding India Mumbai Together, we can make every wedding a celebration for everyone! 🌸 #FoodWastage #Sustainability #Weddings #SocialImpact
