Interacting with customers is an absolute necessity. One cannot optimally market therapies and provide solutions to customers without being close to the field. I have watched magic occur as senior leaders get out and interact directly with customers. Being in the field provides an opportunity to dig deeper. It adds additional insights beyond what is gained from market research and secondary data. Plus, it is an opportunity to demonstrate to your team and customers that your organization wants to deeply understand their needs. Seeing this post, reminded me of this important fact. It’s 3:51am and I’m at the airport to catch an early morning flight. Every month, no matter how busy I am, I spend time with our field-based employees who are supporting our customers across the U.S. I could stay at the headquarter in the San Francisco Bay Area, comfortably sitting at my desk. But this is not who I am. I cannot lead an organization from an ivory tower, somewhat disconnected from reality. I need to engage with our customers and employees directly, hear their stories, frustrations, opportunities, challenges, and dreams. Time spent in the field gives me energy and ideas. Nothing replaces in person interactions, whether in a car with sales representatives or in offices with healthcare professionals. Thank you to our field-based teams who are supporting our customers wherever they are and whatever they need. Thank you to healthcare professionals, you make such a difference every single day! Now boarding my flight to Arkansas, never been to Little Rock nor Bentonville. Looking forward to discovering a new state with my team! #GileadProud #ThankYou
