But what exactly qualifies as an 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁? An 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 is any unexpected or unplanned event that disrupts normal operations, posing the potential for 𝗶𝗻𝗷𝘂𝗿𝘆, 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘆 𝗱𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗲, 𝗼𝗿 𝗲𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗺. It's important to note that incidents aren't limited to accidents that result in injury — they also include near-misses and unsafe acts that could lead to more serious consequences if left unaddressed. 𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: Spills, emissions, or leaks that harm the environment or breach regulations. 𝗨𝗻𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝘀/𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Dangerous behaviors or conditions that increase the likelihood of future incidents. This initiative by the Sharjah Government, through SPSA, demonstrates a proactive approach to fostering a robust safety culture across the Emirate. The course itself provides in-depth knowledge about OSH practices and emphasizes the importance of systematic control measures to mitigate risks and prevent workplace incidents. Sharjah's OSH framework (OSHJ) focuses on setting minimum compliance standards for entities while encouraging continuous improvement in health and safety management. The training covers everything from leadership commitment to effective performance monitoring, ensuring all stakeholders-employers, employees, and contractors, are aligned towards a safer work environment. The requirement for entities is to register on the OSHJ portals and have qualified HSE professionals with OSHJ membership overseeing their operations in the Emirates of Sharjah. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗧𝗕𝗧? A 𝗧𝗼𝗼𝗹𝗯𝗼𝘅 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗸 (𝗧𝗕𝗧) is a short, focused safety meeting conducted before starting work. Its purpose is to raise awareness about potential hazards, discuss safety measures, and foster a proactive safety culture. These talks typically last between 5 to 15 minutes and cover a range of topics such as personal protective equipment (PPE), safe work practices, or specific project-related risks. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗧𝗕𝗧𝘀 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁? 𝗛𝗮𝘇𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗜𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Workers are reminded of the dangers they may face on-site and the ways to mitigate them. Seeing fake health and safety certifications advertised on social media is concerning. It weakens real certificates and risks safety in workplaces. To fight this, employers should check all certifications. Leaders can also push for stricter rules and back programs like Saudi Arabia's KWADER program that promote proper training and qualifications.
