The Australian Goverment is continuing to support local jobs in Bendigo with a $45 million contract to build an additional 15 Bushmaster Protected Mobility Vehicles. Thales Australia will build the Bushmaster vehicles in Bendigo, supporting hundreds of jobs in the local economy and many more jobs across the supply chain in Victoria. This contact will continue Bendigo’s more than 20-year history of producing these iconic vehicles that have seen service around the world. The additional 15 Bushmasters will facilitate command and control of Army’s High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) long-range fires regiment. This supports the Albanese Government’s $1.6 billion investment to accelerate the delivery of the first land-based long range fires capability for the Australian Defence Force (ADF), ensuring the ADF is equipped to deter potential threats and keep Australia safe. Since coming to office, the Albanese Government has invested over $200 million in Bendigo for an additional 93 locally made Bushmaster Protected Mobility Vehicles. The Bushmaster was primarily designed by the then government-owned Australian Defence Industries (ADI), and is currently produced by Thales Australia following their acquisition of ADI. It is the first armoured vehicle to be completely manufactured in Australia since the Sentinel tank during World War II. The iconic Bushmaster is currently in use in nine countries and is world renowned for its high level of protection and mobility for troops. This announcement is a significant step in the establishment of a littoral fleet which is expected to create 1,100 direct jobs and more than 2,000 indirect jobs under the Albanese Government’s plan for continuous naval shipbuilding in Western Australia. The Government has prioritised the acquisition of new littoral manoeuvre capabilities and infrastructure to meet the aims of the National Defence Strategy. Today’s announcement is the next stage in the transformation of the Australian Army to one focused on littoral manoeuvre and long-range strike. The Damen Shipyards Group’s Landing Ship Transport 100 (LST100) will provide a capability which is essential to the restructure and re-posture of the Army. The vessels, along with Landing Craft Medium and amphibious vehicles, will support a strategy of denial which includes deploying and sustaining land forces with long-range land and maritime strike capabilities in littoral environments. Eight Landing Craft Heavy vessels, based on the LST100, will be built by Australian shipbuilder Austal at the Henderson Shipyard in Western Australia, subject to acceptable commercial negotiations and demonstrated performance.  The LST100 vessel design has a 3,900-tonne displacement, is 100 meters long and 16 meters wide. It will be capable of operating with other vessels to undertake a range of tasks including troop insertion and extraction, logistics movements and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief. https://lnkd.in/gCh4iCvH

#DAC approves proposals worth Rs 1.45 lakh crore to enhance defence preparedness Procurement of #Future Ready Combat Vehicles, Air Defence Fire Control Radars, Dornier-228 aircraft, Next Generation Fast Patrol & Offshore Patrol Vessels gets the nod The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), under the chairmanship of Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh on September 03, 2024, accorded Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for 10 capital acquisition proposals amounting to Rs 1,44,716 crore. Of the total cost of AoNs, 99% is from indigenous sources under Buy (Indian) and Buy (lndian-Indigenously Designed Developed and Manufactured) categories. For modernisation of the tank fleet of the Indian Army, the proposal for procurement of Future Ready Combat Vehicles (FRCVs) has been cleared. The FRCV will be a futuristic Main Battle Tank with superior mobility, all terrain ability, multilayered protections, precision & lethal fires over and real-time situational awareness. The AoN was also accorded for procurement of Air Defence Fire Control Radars, which will detect & track aerial target and provide firing solution. The proposal has also been approved for Forward Repair Team (Tracked) which has suitable cross country mobility for carrying out in-situ repair during mechanised operations. This equipment is designed & developed by Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited, and is authorised for both mechanised Infantry Battalion and Armoured Regiment. Three AoNs have been accorded to enhance the capabilities of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG). The procurement of Dornier-228 aircraft, Next Generation Fast Patrol Vessels having high operational features in rough weather conditions and Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels with advanced technology and enhanced long-range operations, will enhance the capability of ICG to carry out surveillance, patrolling of maritime zone, search & rescue and disaster relief operations. This capital outlay would help indigenous defence industry and boost defence exports in the years to come. 🧊 🚢 The U.S. Coast Guard has contracted Offshore Service Vessels to provide the MV Aiviq, a commercially available icebreaker, to support missions in polar regions under a $125-million project. The MV Aiviq’s primary role is to enhance its operational presence in the Arctic until the service’s future fleet of new Polar Security Cutters arrives. Built in 2010, the icebreaker features a 360-foot length, capacity for 60 personnel and a helicopter, and engines capable of 15 knots in open water and 5 knots on ice.

The Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) No. 3 Squadron is conducting Exercise Blackbird, a critical training initiative aimed at honing mountain flying capabilities. The exercise, which involves four NH90 helicopters, three A109 helicopters, and over 80 personnel, is being carried out in the rugged terrain of Nelson and Marlborough. These regions provide ideal conditions for aviators to develop and enhance their skills in navigating challenging mountainous environments. The exercise focuses on equipping aircrews with the expertise and confidence required to execute mountain flying missions, a critical skill set for operations in New Zealand’s varied and often difficult topography. The NH90s and A109s, central to RNZAF’s rotary-wing operations, are put through their paces in conditions that replicate operational challenges. The RNZAF has eight NH90 helicopters in its fleet, which are operated by No. 3 Squadron and have been in full service since 2015. The RNZAF also has five AgustaWestland A109 Light Utility Helicopters (A109LUH). From navigating narrow valleys to dealing with sudden weather changes, the exercise ensures pilots and support crews are well-prepared for any mission scenario. The Australian Government has down-selected two shipbuilders, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and thyssenkrupp Marine Systems, to progress designs for Australia’s future general purpose frigates under the SEA 3000 programme. In May, Defence released an approach to market to five shipbuilders, with Defence Australia now planning to work with the two industry partners to further develop the proposals for the Mogami (pictured) and MEKO A-200 frigates. Embraer signed a contract with an undisclosed customer for the sale of two C-390 Millennium multi-mission aircraft. The contract also includes a comprehensive training and support package as well as the supply of spare parts. The aircraft will be specially configured to meet customers’ requirements, which include tactical transport of troops and vehicles, humanitarian aid, disaster management and medical evacuation.
