This is a time to recognise the energy, creativity, and potential of us young people. It's also Men's Mental Health Month, highlighting the importance of mental well-being among men, breaking stigmas, and promoting support. Moreover, June is recognised globally as Pride Month, a time to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community's resilience, diversity, and contributions. This intersection of themes is a powerful reminder of the importance of acceptance and inclusivity in our society. Acceptance is about embracing people for who they are, regardless of their age, gender, or sexual orientation. It's about creating a world where everyone feels safe, valued, and supported. By accepting and celebrating our differences, we can create a kind and understanding society for all. Let's remember to support our youth, promote mental health awareness especially among men, and stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community. 📚 The PAHRC team is proud to be presenting two sessions at NAHRO's National Conference and Exhibition September 26-28 in Orlando, FL. 📚 Here's what to look for: 👉 "Pathways for Advancing Equity" (Friday, September 27, 1:45 - 3:15 p.m.): 🏓 PHAs play a crucial role in serving the most vulnerable members of their communities. However, systemic disparities limit housing access and opportunities for wealth generation for many residents. This session will feature strategies, both big and small, PHA staff can implement to promote equitable outcomes for their residents. Attendees will be invited to brainstorm policies, programs, and practices their organization can adopt to promote equity among the communities and residents they serve.💡 👉 "Raising the Rainbow Flag: LGBTQ+ Awareness through PHA Staff Training" (Friday, September 27, 3:30-5 p.m.): 🏓 PHAs provide homes to people of diverse backgrounds, and also function as employers providing safe and inclusive workplaces where people are valued, honored, and comfortable expressing their identity. In both capacities, staff are more effective when onboarding, training, and care includes attention to LGBTQ+ inclusion. June is Pride month, a time to celebrate diversity and foster an environment of inclusivity and respect. Celebrating diversity and inclusion is essential, especially in the workplace. For #TrainingTuesday we are highlighting trainings that focus on promoting inclusivity. These trainings cover a wide range of topics, from LGBTQ+ awareness to cultural competency and unconscious bias. The LGBTQ+ population faces disproportionate health risks. Stigma, discrimination, and a general lack of understanding of specific needs of the LGBTQ+ population reduces access to safe healthcare and services. Learn about health disparities faced by the LGBTQ+ population and the health consequences of ongoing stigma and discrimination. Familiarize yourself with current terms and practice using language appropriately to contribute to improving health equity for the LGBTQ+ population It's important that we continue to support and elevate each other not just this month, but throughout the year.
