🌊 Exciting News in Offshore Wind! 🌊 Stiesdal Offshore and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) have just announced a groundbreaking partnership destined to reshape the floating offshore wind sector. This collaboration is not just a strategic move; it's a commitment to innovation and cost efficiency in floating wind technology. The partnership sees CIP's Copenhagen Infrastructure V (CIP V) fund acquiring a minority stake in Stiesdal Offshore. With more than 30 specific initiatives in place to reduce CAPEX, Stiesdal Offshore aims to become a long-term leader in the industry. Their plan? Transform from just designing and developing floating foundations to offering comprehensive services, including engineering and full project support. Floating offshore wind holds immense potential. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), it could increase the global offshore wind resource by tenfold between 2030 and 2040. At LSP, we are thrilled about such advancements, as they align perfectly with our mission to eliminate CO2 emissions and foster a greener future. 🌍 What are your thoughts on the future of floating offshore wind energy? Let's discuss it! #RenewableEnergy #OffshoreWind #Innovation

💥 Big news for the floating offshore wind sector in the UK, as the world’s first dedicated innovation centre for floating offshore wind was opened in Aberdeen. The Floating Wind Innovation Centre (#FLOWIC) will support developers, operators, equipment manufacturers, supply chain companies and innovators with research, test, deployment and validation in relation to offshore wind. It will also allow companies to develop and de-risk many of the #innovative technologies essential to the future success of the sector. With more than 19GW of potential projects in the pipeline, the facility will be of huge value to the sector. In 1981, when The Rolling Stones sang "If you start me up, if you start me up, I'll never stop", were they personifying the electrical system? Probably not. More likely some cheap innuendo that you can't get away with these days, and frankly was questionable even at the time given they were, by then, already well into middle age. BUT IF THEY WERE singing about the electricity system back in 1981, they would have been correct. Lots of large fossil fuel synchronous generators providing a strong electrical system. Sir Mick was right: once started, it would not stop. Indeed the UK system has never had a nationwide black out. But what about a net zero power system in 2030? It will have changed beyond recognition due to increasing levels of renewable generation. The Rolling Stones' once boastful proclamation would begin to sound like nothing more than desperate bravado, which if anyone has seen them in recent years is perhaps already the case. Maybe, once started up, the electrical system could stop? Or maybe, if stopped, it couldn't be started up again? These questions have haunted me. Which is why I'm absolutely delighted with this announcement, culminating 4.5 years of my professional life bringing together top brains from across the international energy sector - transmission, generation, manufacturers, system operators and academia - to solve a crucial problem for a net zero power system. The BLADE project will devise and demonstrate how the electrical system can be restarted in case of a black out using offshore wind instead of fossil fuel generation. Or in the words of Sir Mick: how to start it up and never never never stop. #offshorewind #transmission #renewables #innovation #security #therollingstones
📣 Funding for a new phase of the SIF BLADE project, which is researching how offshore wind farms provide restoration services to the onshore grid, has been announced! 👏 This will allow offshore wind to offer a vital ancillary service, traditionally provided by fossil fuel-heavy generation, to help maintain the resilience of the network and the decarbonisation of the electricity sector. Building on the positive findings of the first two phases of the project, this new phase aims to resolve the commercial and technical unknowns of bringing these technologies to market. This project combines two world-leading R&D programmes: Ofgem's Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF) and the Carbon Trust’s Offshore Wind Accelerator (OWA). This will create a powerful consortium, including ScottishPower Networks Transmission, SSEN Transmission , National Grid ESO, University of Strathclyde, TNEI and the Carbon Trust representing the OWA developers: EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG, Equinor, Ørsted, RWE, ScottishPower Renewables, Shell, SSE Renewables, TotalEnergies and Vattenfall, as well as two new developer partners bp and OW Ocean Winds. This project is funded by network users and consumers under the Strategic Innovation Fund, an Ofgem programme managed in partnership with UKRI #OfgemSIF Innovate UK #OffshoreWind #WindFarms #OffshoreWindEnergy Find out more➡️https://lnkd.in/eaSjK3K6
