The concern for contamination and spoilage in the food industry has grown significantly in recent times. Fungi/mold is noticed as a contaminant and is ubiquitous in the environment. Air quality plays a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and food quality during production and storage. Airborne fungi can originate from various sources, including air-conditioning systems, raw materials, human resources, and specific food production systems. To assist with identifying potential contamination in food manufacturing facilities, EMSL provides air quality testing. To learn more, visit https://lnkd.in/guZqJSdX. Additionally, EMSL carries the sampling supplies and equipment necessary to complete sampling and analysis. For additional information about EMSL’s laboratory locations, services, and accreditations, visit www.EMSL.com or call 800.220.3675 (EST) / 866.798.1089 (PST). #Fungi #Testing #Food #FoodManufacturing #AirTesting #AirQuality #AirMonitoring

"HPP disrupts several biochemical processes in microbial cells that leads to the inactivation of bacteria, yeasts, molds and some viruses. In general, bacteria, such as E. coli and Salmonella, are susceptible to the effects of high pressure." #HPP #HighPressureProcessing #foodsafety #foodborneillness #brandprotection #pasteurization

Yeast and mold both cause various degrees of deterioration and decomposition of foods. They can invade and grow on virtually any type of food at any time. Occasionally, a food appears mold-free but is found upon mycological examination to be contaminated. Contamination of foods by yeasts and molds can result in substantial economic losses to producers, processors, and consumers. EMSL’s Food Division provides analysis to verify if yeast and mold are present. We offer F103 (Petrifilm AOAC 997.02), F162 (Rapid Petrifilm AOAC 2014.05), and F166 (CMMEF 5th Ed. Ch. 21 and FDA BAM Ch. 18). To learn more, visit https://lnkd.in/gJGtVkEG. #Yeast #Mold #Food #FoodTesting #Testing

Iodine is important for thyroid function, which plays an important role in human growth, development, and reproduction. Seaweed (such as kelp, nori, kombu, and wakame) is one of the best food sources of iodine. Other good sources include fish and other seafood as well as eggs. But how much iodine does a typical serving contain? Find out in the latest version (Release 3.0) of the USDA, FDA and ODS-NIH Database for the Iodine Content of Common Foods. Access the database here: https://lnkd.in/ewnP5YVF And learn more about iodine in our fact sheet for health professionals: https://lnkd.in/edF3nuBf

Why do I purge after eating some food? Have you ever wondered why the food you eat upsets your stomach and makes you uncomfortable leading to many hours in the toilet? Most of us if not all can attest to being in this 'not funny situation ' at least twice a year This can be caused by the contamination of food products by pathogens such as Salmonella, E- coli, Listeria and Campylolobacter during production or packaging. Hence the essence of microbial analysis of food. What is microbial analysis of food? 👉 It is a complex process that involves multiple steps to evaluate the safety and quality of food samples . 👉 It is a major tool in ensuring food safety and quality by evaluating the micro organisms in food samples. The procedures for standard microbial testing of food includes: 🎯 Weigh the food samples carefully 🎯 Dilute each sample to a standard level 🎯 Precise volumes are pipetted into Petri dishes and incubated at a specific temperature for a given amount of time. 🎯 After incubation, the colonies on the dishes are counted. 🎯 If dangerous microbes are found, the pathogen is further identified using biochemical identification, mass spectrophotometer, serology or bacterial genetic analysis. 👉 The process of microbial analysis can take 18-24 hours to 4-5 days depending on the organism and the test method used. Microbial analysis of products are not only applicable to food industries but also to pharmaceutical and Cosmetic industries to ensure safety and quality of products. Look out for my next post on the chemical analysis of food. #day16of20with Mary Odili (MNIFST) #QAQC #foodanddrugindustry #foodsafetyandquality

Microbial Analysis of food Microbial Analysis of Food involves detecting and evaluating microorganisms in food to ensure safety, quality, and regulatory compliance. It identifies pathogens (e.g., Salmonella, E. coli), spoilage organisms, and hygiene indicators through methods like culture techniques, molecular tools (e.g., PCR), and immunological tests (e.g., ELISA). Proper sampling and preparation are essential for accurate results. This analysis is vital for: • Preventing foodborne illnesses. • Ensuring product quality and shelf life. • Meeting legal and industry standards. Applications include testing raw materials, finished products, and environmental samples. While traditional methods are time-consuming, rapid techniques provide faster results but may be costly. Adherence to regulatory guidelines (e.g., FDA, Codex Alimentarius) ensures food safety and consumer trust. #20dayschallengewithodillimary #foodsafety #foodscientist #virtualassistant
