📢 "Hey, learning team, we need training on…" 😒 Those few words make your learning team cringe. Why? Because it shows a lack of partnership with them to determine how best to get to the desired outcome, and it indicates (whether true or not) that you think the solution must be more training. 🤩 A better way to approach your learning team is something like this: "We are continuously seeing <insert behavior, other issue>. Our expectation is <insert specific metric, outcome>. Can we partner with you to determine if this is training issue?" Reminder: Training is not always the answer [Note to learning teams: Proactively build a trusted partnership with your internal clients to help avoid being seen as "order takers".]

I have been on the receiving end of the "order request" many times with multiple organizations. It is sometimes hard to push back to senior leaders, but it is so important to determine what will actually get the results they are trying to achieve. They will likely thank you for helping them figure out the actual problem/solution. An example from my experience in healthcare (similar situations at two very different organizations): If clinicians are not completing documentation timely, it is important to find out why. If they know HOW to complete their documentation, then more training on how to use the software is likely not going to result in timely completion. (Spoiler: It was not a training issue at either organization, AND the root cause was different at each one.)
