I think the use of Range Externder Systems is a smart idea as a BEV can come with a small battery enough for 80-90% of the needed ranges. By that cost, weight and resources will be saved and at the same time you still have the needed range for 10-20% of the longer trips.

Electric vehicles come in many shapes and sizes to meet consumers’ differing needs for clean mobility. The latest addition to the EV product portfolio are Range Extender Systems. We first started development of this system for our Chinese customers but demand for it has expanded to NA customers' product plans as they work to achieve range parity to traditional ICE vehicles.    Using a range extender is a smart way to get an EV to meet or even exceed the range of the best ICE systems. In this application the electric motor, in combination with a super-efficient gas engine, work as a generator, producing energy in the form of electricity. This electricity is then converted and stored in the battery while you drive. This results in an impressive range addition of several hundred miles for an EV, matching or exceeding best ICE systems which takes range anxiety out of the EV equation.   What makes ZF's system stand out? It is highly integrated, which means all ZF components work seamlessly together. It also offers excellent noise and vibration control for a smoother, quieter ride, and it’s designed to be as efficient as possible. Plus, it can be customized to fit different types of vehicles and power needs, supporting both 400V and 800V architecture.   Regardless of the path, ZF is ready for any road. As we transition to an electric future, getting the most out of a charge is a goal ZF can help customers and drivers achieve.   #AutomotiveNews #RangeExtenders #Technology
