The ship, named Pyxis Ocean was fitted with two WindWings sails in August 2023 and sailed across the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Oceans. During a six-month test, Chief executive John Cooper of BAR Technologies, the sail developer, reported the Pyxis Ocean's fuel savings. After sailing globally for six months, Cargill, revealed the findings. The Pyxis Ocean saved an average of 3 tons of fuel each day. In favorable weather, it demonstrated potential savings of over 11 tons daily. WindWings sails, towering at 37.5 meters, are installed on the Pyxis Ocean, taking minimal space. The sails operate automatically, requiring only crew intervention to adjust them for added power. #cargoship #emmis #gasemissions #sea #PyxisOcean

🚢 SOCATRA Reduces Fuel Consumption and Emissions on M/T Alcyone with Syroco’s Voyage Optimisation Platform SOCATRA, TotalEnergies and Syroco are proud to share performance data from the deployment of Syroco's voyage optimisation solution on the M/T Alcyone. The platform enhances the vessel’s fuel efficiency and emissions reduction by leveraging weather routing to maximise the impact of Norsepower’s rotating masts, installed earlier this year. As a key oil shipping provider, Socatra has equipped the 183-meter, French-flagged tanker chartered by TotalEnergies and operating transpacific routes with Syroco’s data-driven weather routing solution. This collaboration empowers the Alcyone's crew to optimise routes and vessel parameters in response to real-time weather conditions, boosting the benefits of wind propulsion assistance. 🌊 A promising step forward in the energy transition for maritime transportation. #WindPower 🔷 In addition to 37.5m WindWings®, the smaller 20m & 24m sails designed for handysize bulkers, chemical tankers, and smaller vessels, will also be manufactured & distributed by WindWaves (Spain) on behalf of the designers BAR Technologies (UK). Weighing less than 30 tonnes, the new range are extremely economical and simple to fit on both newbuilds and retrofits. The fuel-saving capabilities of the original WindWings®’ were independently validated by DNV-Maritime in May 2024. Their deployment on vessels such as the Pyxis Ocean and Berge Olympus has already demonstrated a 32% reduction in energy use per nautical mile, solidifying WindWings® as a reliable and validated choice for shipowners. Under the terms of this updated agreement, WindWaves will manage the value chain of procurement and construction of 20m and 24m WindWings®, and their installation at shipyards across Europe. Additionally, WindWaves will manage the servicing of WindWings® during their operational life cycle, alongside crew training on the operation of the wing sails. “Benefitting from our history in manufacturing for the wind sector, we look forward to supporting BAR Technologies with their new 20m-24m WindWings® and continuing the trajectory towards a cleaner and decarbonized global shipping sector.” Mr. Roberto Bouzas General Manager of WindWaves. John Cooper, CEO of BAR Technologies, said: “We are delighted to expand on our existing relationship with WindWaves, a business with a proud legacy in wind energy manufacturing. Having previously agreed a deal for the manufacture and supply of our 37.5m WindWings® variant, it’s incredibly exciting to be bringing our newest, and more compact, 20m-24m models to the European market, signalling an expansion to a huge market of smaller vessels, and further enhancing the geographical availability of our WindWings® technology.” Full article: https://lnkd.in/eDmWa-gV #WindWings #RenewableEnergy #CleanEnergy #WindEnergy #EnergyEfficiency #Aerodynamics #Decarbonization #Propulsion #WindPropulsion

Hybrid propulsion tugboats are revolutionizing the maritime industry by integrating alternative fuels and advanced propulsion technologies, reducing emissions and improving efficiency. The International Maritime Organization aims to halve GHG emissions from international shipping by 2050, with the ultimate goal of zero emissions by the end of the century. Hybrid tugboats, such as Foss Maritime's Carolyn Dorothy and Seabulk’s Spartan and Titan, have showcased significant environmental benefits. Svitzer is designing the world’s first methanol hybrid fuel cell tug, expected to operate in 2025, and contribute to reducing shipping emissions in the port of Gothenburg. While there are challenges, the benefits of hybrid tugboats are driving global interest, with ongoing research and development to maximize their potential. 👀 Read more about this research in detail here: https://lnkd.in/gqK4aXJ9 #oceanlogisticslimited #maritimeindustry #tugboat #hybridtechnology
