Always a pleasure to connect with @ElenapanovaUN, the @UNEgypt Resident Coordinator to exchange views on the partnership between #Egypt & the #UN. We discussed the preparations for the #SummitoftheFuture & the importance of galvanizing this opportunity to achieve the #SDGs, enhance the @UN's role across different fields, including achieving #SustainableDevelopment & enhancing #peacebuilding, and to urgently address the deficiencies that have left developing countries behind, particularly through reforming #IFIs.

🌍 #NrOfTheDay 🌍 In 1971, the UN General Assembly established the Least Developed Countries (LDC) category. This significant move recognized the need for special support measures to assist the least developed among developing countries. 📉 LDCs are defined by the United Nations based on three critical criteria: 🔻Low levels of income 💰 🔻Weak human assets 📚 🔻Economic vulnerability 🌪️ These nations face severe structural impediments to sustainable development, highlighting the importance of international support in fostering growth and stability. 🌱🤝 #UN #LDC #SustainableDevelopment #GlobalCommunity #DevelopmentAid #InternationalSupport

“Institutionalizing evaluation is crucial, given its technical nature within a political context. National evaluation policies define evaluation's purpose and stakeholders' roles, but investments in systems and ecosystems are equally vital. Collaboration across sectors, including parliaments, is key for accountability and SDGs achievement.” Access the speech of Marco Segone, Director of Evaluation Office, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA): https://lnkd.in/gex8JXkg 📝Join us in the collective resolution movement to institutionalizing Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) for the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), sign the Manila Declaration: https://lnkd.in/gKcmSEhr 🌐 #ManilaDeclaration #SDGs #Eval4Action #APCHub

Did you know that the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were born at the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development in Rio de Janeiro in 2012. In 2015, the United Nations created 17 Sustainable Development Goals and aimed to achieve them by 2030 which is interlinked with Agenda 2063. All 193 United Nations Member States agreed on these17 goals to end poverty, ensure prosperity, and protect the planet. Together we can create the Africa we want. It begins with us as entrepreneurs to always incorporate the SDG's in our businesses.

Reflection: Good Governance and Psychological contracts are the heartbeat for successful SDG implementation in Africa: A paradox of First things First. 'What's there for me?' is a silent but powerful and biggest question of which policy makers should learn to strategically answer in policy formulating and implementation for sustainable development in any circumstances. Psychological contract Humans are rational beings, highly subjective to personal gratification even at their own peril. Therefore, it is ideal for Governments and development institutions to project vividly the costs vs benefits of embracing sustainable development in local contexts. The clear the social and psychological contract, the more sustainable would be the policy implementation process for SDGs. Governments to establish cost-effective and robust policies to safeguard inclusivity in SDG policy implementation process. George Choongwa Expert in socioeconomic policy and Development.
