“The greatest medicine of all is teaching people how not to need it.” Empowering individuals with knowledge and preventative care is key to a healthier future. Are we guilty of focusing on fighting fires instead of preventing them? We can do so much more by putting emphasis on prevention. Preventing the fire is easier than fighting the fire. The Cost of Reactive Healthcare Is staggering: Chronic Diseases: Treating chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer, and diabetes accounts for 90% of the $3.8 trillion annual healthcare expenditures in the U.S. (CDC). Preventable Hospitalizations: Nearly $30 billion is spent annually on hospitalizations that could have been prevented with timely and effective outpatient care (Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality). Obesity-Related Conditions: The medical costs for obesity-related conditions alone amount to about $147 billion per year (CDC). The Power of Prevention: For every dollar spent on prevention, we save $5.60 in healthcare costs (American Public Health Association). Preventive Screenings: Increasing the use of preventive screenings and services can prevent 100,000 deaths each year (Partnership for Prevention). Health Education: Comprehensive health education can reduce the incidence of chronic diseases by up to 80% for heart disease and stroke, 80% for type 2 diabetes, and 40% for cancer (World Health Organization).

Dr Nik, people don't understand the real cost of the healthcare national burden. The American system is struggling due to the overwhelming costs of chronic disease management and preventable hospitalizations, which place a heavy financial burden on individuals and the healthcare system. In the UK, the free healthcare system is crumbling under the weight of rising demand and insufficient funding for preventive measures, leading to strained resources and long waiting times. Both systems highlight the urgent need for a stronger focus on prevention and proactive health management

if only more people could understand this.

A great question.... preventative medicine or reactive? I often joke that if every patient did what they were told by physicians and other well meaning health professionals ...they'd all get healthy eventually ...and them the professionals would be out of a job. Or is that just me be cynical Dr Nik?

I completely agree with you Dr Nik . Infact if we focus on the preventive care rather than care after disease diagnosis…A lot of lives will be saved. This will drastically reduce mortality rate..The reason why the sector that deals with the awareness about public health is key in every Health Economy. We will get there !!!
