I have not seen any completing their *AIMS* & objectives as such they proposed in the initial days of the PhD. It's normal to remodel your objectives as you go in PhD.Depends on the results you get only, your next objective is defined .But *FOCUS* .. That's an entirely different thing ..Don't lose your focus area of research during your PhD. I have seen many fluctuate from their research as they see success for some other colleagues nearby. Lack of focus leads to lack of output. You go there.. here.. Done that.. This.. At last the output may be zero or messy.. #academics #phd #research #academia

Don’t miss our webinar on ten key points that prospective doctoral students should consider prior to embarking on such a journey, namely: 1. Structuredness of the Programme 2. Research Scoping 3. Mastering the Trio 4. Supportive Network 5. Research Methods 6. Benchmarking Opportunities 7. Progress Measurement 8. The Element of Time 9. Viva Preparation 10. The aftermath of the doctorate During this webinar we’ll engage in discussion around ten guiding points prospective doctoral students should consider prior to embarking on such a journey. For you to have a better understanding about what to expect at the webinar we are going to post a teaser for each of the ten key points in the days ahead. Today we introduce: #5 Research Methods: Why the research method will lend itself to you, and how related studies are your greatest friend. It’s not uncommon for students to dedicate great effort deciding on the most appropriate research method(s). What is often less well considered, is that research evolves over time. Frequently, time is needed to develop deeper understanding of the nature of the subject matter being researched, known as ontology, so as to fully appreciate how it may be examined best, known as epistemology. Prior studies and related research will assist. in developing the correct skill. And as a result of this, it is the method that is lending itself to you gradually and automatically, and in a very structured manner. Actually, there is not much need for students to actively ‘imagine’ what methods they would ‘want’ to use in their research. Consequently, doctoral programmes should provide active training and guidance to prepare students on identifying prior and related studies, and how to derive fitting methodologies. That’s it for today and we are looking forward seeing you tomorrow on: #6 Benchmarking Opportunities: Learning together and learning from how others do. 🔗 Register Here https://lnkd.in/egE97hVW #PhDLife #DBA #HigherEducation #AcademicJourney #Webinar #Research #DoctorateHub FOLLOW DoctorateHub for more insights on the doctorate research journey!

When the comic is uncomfortably close to reality. If you are a prospective PhD student, make sure you know... 1. What is the source of funding? 2. Is it guaranteed for the duration of your program? 3. Is it sufficient to make ends meet? 4. Are additional resources available to pay for travel to conferences? 5. Are additional resources available to support your dissertation research? As much as the prestige of the institution or the advisor, make sure these bottom line questions are answered - so you can make an informed decision about where to earn your PhD. #academiccareers #phdcomics

This newspaper article titled "Focus On PhD Quality, Not Publications" by MAMIDALA JAGADESH KUMAR. The article emphasizes the need to prioritize the quality of #PhDeducation over the sheer number of #publications by #PhDscholars. It highlights several issues: Unproductive Mandates: The article criticizes mandates requiring PhD students to publish in high-quality journals as it may lead to unnecessary stress and compromise research quality. The point is made that such mandates might result in high rejection rates and the submission of work to predatory or low-quality journals just to meet graduation requirements. Maintaining PhD Quality: It discusses the crucial role of the PhD supervisor in maintaining the quality of the student's research and training. The emphasis is on the quality of the dissertation work rather than the quantity of publications. Publication Pressure: The article mentions the pressure on PhD students to submit to high-impact journals, which can be time-consuming and may distract from the actual research. Quality Over Quantity: There's a call to shift focus from the number of publications to the impact and quality of the research being conducted, suggesting that if #PhDcandidates are encouraged to be explorative and rigorous in their research, high-quality publications will naturally follow. The article effectively urges #universities and #educational policymakers to rethink how #PhDquality is measured and suggests focusing more on nurturing in-depth knowledge and critical thinking skills among PhD scholars rather than counting their publications. #PhDQuality #HigherEducation #AcademicResearch #PhDLife #ResearchEthics #PhDJourney #QualityOverQuantity #PhDStudent #UGCRegulations #ResearchPublication #AcademicIntegrity #PhDThesis #PhDReforms #MentorshipInResearch #HigherEd

🎓 Rethinking PhD Admission Criteria: Beyond Standardized TestsIn the pursuit of academic excellence, we must prioritize genuine research potential over standardized test scores. A PhD isn't just about passing exams; it's about making a significant contribution to knowledge. Let's move away from the one-size-fits-all approach and focus on evaluating the quality and significance of research proposals. This shift will ensure that doctoral programs attract candidates who are truly passionate about advancing their fields. It's time for a change. Let's uphold the integrity and quality of doctoral education by reevaluating our admission criteria. #PhD #HigherEducation #ResearchQuality

Focus on PhD Quality, Not Just Publications This sounds good, but the reality is different. Most of them are more focused on publications than on quality. As long as publications remain a key parameter for assessment, quantity will win, and quality will continue to take a back seat. The essence of pursuing a PhD should be about curiosity, critical thinking, and making unique contributions to knowledge, not simply fulfilling publication requirements. As Prof. Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar highlights, the current system's emphasis on mandatory publications can sometimes drive students to publish in lower-quality journals, undermining the value of their research. The key is fostering a culture where the PhD journey is supported through mentoring, structured courses, and continuous feedback from research committees. By focusing on strengthening the monitoring process of PhD work and supporting students to grow as inquisitive scholars, high-quality research and publications will naturally follow. In STEM and social sciences alike, the pressure to publish prematurely can compromise the integrity of research. It’s important that we allow the right time and space for impactful work to develop, rather than prioritizing quantity over quality. Let’s shift our focus towards nurturing thinkers and innovators, not just fulfilling publication quotas. #PhD #ResearchQuality #HigherEducation #Innovation #AcademicExcellence #Publications
