From January to September 2024, India saw a remarkable growth in renewable energy installations, adding 17,444 MW of solar and 2,627 MW of wind capacity. This marks a 105.8% increase in solar and 14.8% in wind installations over the same period in 2023. As of September 2024, India's total renewable energy capacity reached 201.46 GW. Karnataka was an early mover in the Indian renewable energy sector and has risen to prominence because of its effective policies, programmes and their implementation. The state has overachieved its past solar targets, with the impressive expansion of large-scale solar parks, and has set ambitious renewable capacity targets in the Karnataka Renewable Energy Policy 2022-27. It is now actively looking to promote pumped storage and green hydrogen projects as well. Despite these positives, the state needs to address issues related to the integration of large amounts of renewables into the grid and inefficiencies in the distribution segment, such as increasing aggregate technical and commercial (AT&C) losses and decreasing collection efficiency. Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) has commissioned a 431 MWdc solar project in Neemuch, Madhya Pradesh. “We are thrilled to announce the successful commissioning of the 431 MW DC solar project in Neemuch,” said Deepesh Nanda, CEO and Managing Director of TPREL. “At Tata Power Renewables, we are committed to driving innovation and efficiency in the solar sector, contributing to a greener future for India. This project not only reduces our carbon footprint but also strengthens infrastructure by powering key entities such as Western Central Railways and Madhya Pradesh Power Management Company Limited.” TPREL secured the solar project through a competitive bidding process. As a result of the new project, TPREL’s renewable energy capacity has reached 10.9 GW, with 5.5 GW of projects under various stages of development and 5.4 GW of operational capacity, comprising 4.4 GW in solar and 1 GW in wind energy. #cleanenergy
