Good piece reflecting on user centered design, and capacity needed for successful springs - this challenge is such an important one 'Balancing impact with capacity. This is a complex challenge and we’ve had to be very focussed about where we dedicate our time during a short sprint. We can’t address the wider context on a structural or policy level, but we hope to build connections, spotlight the work organisations are doing, and make a small contribution to improve things collectively.'
🆕 Explore Adapt Renew: Three perspectives on our co-discovery sprint with 12 organisations The Explore Adapt Renew team at Refugee Action have been working with CAST, NACCOM and 11 organisations in the forced migration sector to explore the question: 'How might we support organisations working to improve accommodation prospects for single refugees?' We’ve been running a series of research interviews and workshops together - and now that we're halfway through the project, we wanted to share some reflections. Take a look at our co-written weeknote, sharing three perspectives from the project team 👉 https://buff.ly/3UtXlRm

There are two days left this year to give! When you give, you reach young people in slums, in refugee camps, in struggling schools, and beyond. When you give, you expand movements impacting cities in Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, and the U.S. When you give, you take your irreplaceable part in changing the world's most hurting neighborhoods. https://hubs.ly/Q02-Pn870

🤔 How do European countries manage family reunification for recognised refugees? 👩🏫 Our latest EMN Ireland Migration Memo is here to help answer this question! In this latest edition of the series, we draw from the EMN Inform on Family Reunification for beneficiaries of international protection to shed light on eligibility, application processes, application timelines, and accepted types of documentation for proving family links. Key takeaways: 🔹 EMN countries have varying criteria for eligible family members for reunification. Many allow long-term or cohabiting partners, dependent adult children, and in some circumstances, dependent parents. 🔹 Almost all responding countries have defined time limits to issue decisions on applications, in line with the 9-month time limit under the Family Reunification Directive. Ireland (having not opted into the Directive) is one of only two countries with no defined time limit. 🔹 Proof of pre-existing family ties is verified across EMN countries by using official documentation, or alternatives including photos and letters. 👇 Read the memo below, or click to find it on our website. https://lnkd.in/eFevePiD

Have you ever felt homesick? When you cannot return to your homeland, homesickness takes on a very deep, often sad, meaning. The Wellcome Trust heard from a student at Scalabrini's English School about feeling homesick. It has been found that, especially among refugee diasporas, homesickness is not just a personal feeling, but a cultural feeling shared by a whole community - a feeling that is "something profound and long-lasting ... shaping the stories and memories." Empowering Integration Through Meaningful Work As the UK continues to provide support to refugees, political refugees, and extended family members arriving in the country, it’s essential to think about how these individuals can contribute to society in a way that benefits both them and the communities they are joining. Instead of being a resource drain, such as receiving council housing and other benefits without having contributed, we must focus on fostering integration. 🌍 One potential approach to fostering integration is the creation of micro-employment opportunities that directly contribute to the community. These could include roles such as walking elderly members of the community, assisting with their health and wellness to get them exercise, helping with light chores, or offering companionship. These roles provide more than just a job—they offer refugees a chance to engage with their new community, develop valuable skills, and promote social integration while helping those in need. 💼 By designing programs that focus on community contribution, refugees can reduce their dependency on benefits and start building financial independence, while simultaneously strengthening the fabric of the community. The emphasis should be on encouraging mutual benefit—not just for the individual but for the community at large. However, if students are required to repay loans once they hit a certain earning threshold, why shouldn’t the same principle apply to those receiving public benefits once they are financially stable? Shouldn’t there be a system in place that encourages and requires all individuals—regardless of background or circumstances—to contribute to the system once they are able to do so? The burden ultimately falls on all of us to ensure that such programs are not only created but are supported by policies that ensure fair contribution across all sectors of society. If we are to foster an inclusive and sustainable society, everyone who is capable should be encouraged to contribute—not just through taxes, but through active participation in community-building and social responsibility. It’s not just about offering opportunities; it’s about creating a culture of responsibility and opportunity, where all individuals, regardless of their origins, are given the tools to integrate, succeed, and ultimately help others in turn. If we can develop job opportunities that are meaningful, sustainable, and create positive impacts, we can contribute to the growth of both individuals and communities. 🌱 #RefugeeIntegration #CommunitySupport #MeaningfulWork #SocialImpact #InclusiveGrowth #EmploymentForAll #Contribution #ResponsibilityAndOpportunity

↪️ In a cost of living crisis, a recent survey has confirmed that most migrant and refugee Australians feel that "their communities were suffering greater financial stress than the broader population" -AMES Australia ❓Many of us may not even be aware that you can access payment support from utility providers. ⛔ This is compounded further by language and cultural barriers to entry ✅ We consulted our national advisory group to develop insights on what can be done. Today marks #WorldRefugeeDay. We want to take a moment to remind ourselves of our duty to welcome all those who have left their homes, no matter their reason why. This years theme is #OurHome. “Home” can mean many things to different people. No one person’s experience is universal - but how we create a home that is “ours” is through community building and connection. At Tarjimly, we try to do this by providing language access. Our goal is to eliminate humanitarian language barriers to improve the safety, health and success of refugees, asylum seekers and immigrants across the globe. Join us in our mission. By #volunteering with Tarjimly, you’re not just giving your time, you’re giving hope and making a tangible impact in their lives. Every action counts. Together, we can change the world, one translation at a time.
