Research is the basis of science. Medical science is no exception– we deal with lives here! Proper research shapes as well as revolutionizes diagnosis. It helps us deliver better care. Research is indispensable, especially in the case of women's health, because women's physiology is not the same as men's. And because it's not one or two but a variety of factors that are directly responsible for women's health. ● Early childbearing ● Multiple and frequent pregnancies ● Poor menstrual hygiene ● Malnutrition ● Insufficient diet ● Menopause ● Anxiety and depression Studies like the Women's Health Initiative have revolutionized healthcare by shedding light on crucial aspects of women's health, From hormone therapy to heart disease prevention. One groundbreaking example is the discovery of the link between hormone replacement therapy and increased risk of breast cancer and heart disease. This finding, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, Which led to a paradigm shift in treatment guidelines, ensuring safer options for women. Moreover, collaborative efforts like the Global Consortium for Women's Brain Health have accelerated progress in understanding conditions like Alzheimer's, Which disproportionately affects women. Similarly, recent research on gender-specific differences in cardiovascular disease has highlighted the importance of tailored prevention and treatment strategies for women, reducing mortality rates significantly. Collaboration is key to accelerating progress in this field. Only by joining forces across disciplines can we utilize the diverse expertise needed to tackle complex health challenges head-on. Every breakthrough brings us closer to a future where all women have access to the care and support they deserve. #NEETPG #next #fmge #inicet #mcq #MBBS #mbbsstudent #studyhacks #ObstetricsBook #MedicalStudents #MedicalStudies #MD #MS #MCH #BlogPost #PostGrads #obstetricslearning #DCD #nursingstudent #MedicalBooks #TextBookOfObstetrics #textbookofgynecology #bscnursingfirstyearbooks #bsc nursing #MScNursing #GynecologyBook #chandrachur #chandrachurkonar #drroshinip

Is the future of healthcare in training "translational geroscientists"? A study in The Journals of Gerontology explores this intriguing concept: https://buff.ly/3Y5d6yY As a future doctor focused on proactive medicine, I'm fascinated by the potential of geroscience interventions to revolutionize healthcare for older adults. The study highlights the need for a new breed of clinical researchers who can: • Conduct early-stage clinical trials • Target fundamental aging processes • Improve human health span The goal? To delay, prevent, or even reverse a wide range of age-related chronic diseases and conditions. What excites me most is the shift from treating individual diseases to targeting integrative, multisystem phenotypes of aging. It's a holistic approach that could transform care for older adults. Do you think this approach could be the key to healthier aging, or am I overlooking potential drawbacks? The study emphasizes four key training domains for these future geroscientists: 1. Clinical research 2. Geriatric medicine 3. Geriatric clinical research 4. Geroscience-specific knowledge This multidisciplinary approach could lead to breakthroughs in maintaining health and independence in older adults. As someone passionate about proactive medicine, I see immense potential in this field. It's not just about adding years to life, but life to years. #GeroscientistTraining #HealthyAging #ProactiveMedicine

Balance Training in Multiple Sclerosis: A Systematic Review In the systematic review by Brincks et al. (Mult Scler Relat Disord. 2023;69:104412. doi:10.1016/j.msard.2022.104412), researchers examined the components, progression, and intensity of balance training interventions for people with multiple sclerosis (MS). Key Findings: Study Design: The review included 40 studies focusing on randomized control trials or systematic reviews. Participants were adults with MS, scoring 7.5 or lower on the Expanded Disability Status Scale, and able to transfer between seated positions independently. The studies evaluated balance training programs challenging motor and sensory deficits. Results: Most interventions targeted general motor and sensory deficits but less frequently addressed reactive motor strategies or cognitive dual-tasking, which is crucial for fall risk assessment. There was no standardized approach to training progression or intensity across studies. Progression varied by the clinician and was not systematically defined, while intensity was often based on subjective patient feedback or visual indicators of exercise difficulty. Conclusions: The review highlights a lack of consistent guidelines for balance training in MS. The effectiveness of balance training varies due to differences in program design, intensity measures, and progression methods. There is a need for standardized protocols to guide clinical practice. Clinical Implications: Individualized Approach: Tailor balance training programs to the patient’s specific deficits—motor, sensory, or cognitive—and their personal goals. Adjust progression and intensity based on patient needs, incorporating cognitive dual-tasking and varying base of support as appropriate. Intensity Measurement: Use both subjective measures, such as the Rating of Perceived Exertion (RPE) scale, and objective indicators like visual displacement of the center of mass to gauge exercise intensity effectively. Future research should focus on developing clear guidelines for balance training to improve consistency and outcomes for patients with MS. For more details or guidance on designing balance training programs for MS patients, feel free to connect. #MultipleSclerosis #BalanceTraining #PhysicalTherapy #SystematicReview

Publication news! 📑 Female health awareness and education is undervalued. Yet the identified barriers to care for abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) are low body and health literacy, taboo and normalization, and poor patient-HCP communications.[1] All alleviated with awareness and education. Given the expected tsunami of health misinformation pushed along a tide of agendas, it is the perfect time to get real about female health education (not just sex ed). Give clinicians a helping hand. They cannot unwind it all in 15 minutes. 🪨 ⭐ Shruthi Mahalingaiah, M.D., M.S. invited me to write a systematic review on digital health education. (Thank you, Dr. M!) I formed the research question to understand what is being done to eliminate these identified barriers to care. The paper is now peer-reviewed and published in Seminars in Reproductive Medicine. 🥂 The answer: we've not taken advantage of the power of lifting body and health literacy and doing so now may lead to early intervention for conditions such as endometriosis, adenomyosis, PMDD, fibroids, PCOS+. We are working on this at Uterinekind and have news brewing. Collaborations are welcome; doing this right, and not lighting money on fire in the process, benefits from our community working together. Thank you to my co-author Barbara Tafuto, Assistant Professor at the Rutgers School of Health Professions, for your expert guidance! Looking forward to our next research adventure! Lastly, writing a research paper is like getting a tattoo. Get one and you immediately start thinking of your next. I have SO much respect for the work done by physician researchers and scientists. #Delirium treatment remains a significant gap which needs to be urgently tackled. I was honoured to join a 39-member interprofessional and international expert working group of clinicians (physicians, nurses, and pharmacists) and nonclinicians (biostatisticians, epidemiologists, and trial methodologists) to build consensus on some critical ways forward under the auspices of NIDUS (The Network for Investigation of Delirium: Unifying Scientists) . Though eight unique areas were identified which pose challenges for delirium treatment #clinicaltrials we map out the way the research community can take some important steps forward in methodological thinking and collaborative efforts. Enhancing Physician-Patient Communication: Bridging Research and Practice in my PhD As part of my PhD research on physician-patient communication, I’m on the lookout for studies that bring new perspectives to improving patient-centered care. A recent publication in JAMA Internal Medicine particularly resonated with me. The study explored a communication-priming intervention designed to facilitate goals-of-care discussions for patients with serious illnesses. The intervention included structured tools such as: 🎯 Pre-visit question prompts to help patients articulate their care preferences and goals. 🎯 Guided frameworks for clinicians to approach sensitive discussions in a clear and empathetic manner. 🎯 Post-discussion summaries to ensure alignment between patients and clinicians on the care plan. The findings were remarkable. Patients involved in the intervention reported significantly higher rates of meaningful conversations about their care objectives. This underscores how structured communication strategies not only improve the quality of care but also empower patients to actively participate in their health decisions. In my PhD research, I’m investigating how the use of alternative communicative means can foster physician - patient communication and influence patient outcomes. This study aligns with my goal of uncovering practical solutions to improve outcomes through better communication. Effective communication is more than just a soft skill—it’s a transformative intervention that can reshape the way we deliver healthcare.
