Did you know there are 5 stages of chronic kidney disease (CKD)? Each stage is determined by the estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate (eGFR), which measures kidney function. As CKD progresses, eGFR declines. At the final stage of CKD, also known as kidney failure, patients will need a transplant or dialysis to survive. Symptoms at early CKD stages can be easy to miss, causing progression to later stages without notice. Unfortunately, by then it's often too late, and the damage is irreversible. The best defence? Prioritise kidney screening and adopt a healthy lifestyle! Regular screenings can catch issues early, and by managing risk factors like diabetes and hypertension, which are major causes of kidney failure, you can safeguard your kidney health! 🥗🏃♀️🔎 #NKFsg #BeKidneySmart #chronickidneydisease #kidneyfailure #healthishealth #sghealth

As we approach the end of Diabetes Awareness Month, BMHC would like to highlight the significant impact of this condition on those affected by it. Diabetes is a disease that does not produce enough insulin to convert food into energy. This chronic disease can lead to other health issues that can be fatal, but there is hope with regular screenings, diabetes management, and lifestyle changes. It is imperative that we do not take this lightly, as fatality data for Blacks, Indians, and Hispanics is significantly higher than the White population, and we see enormous increases in amputations—up to 4 times more in Blacks than compared to the rest of the populations. Perhaps for reasons to do with underlying biological and cultural differences, but we have seen some positive outcomes with changes in diet, exercise, and lifestyle. Source Regular check-ups can assist in prevention and early detection. SCHEDULE your BMHC appointment today! https://lnkd.in/g_GFfMYu
