Traditionally, color grading was a specialized skill handled by colorists. LUTs were created as a way to bridge the gap between the colorist's vision and the editor's workflow. By applying a pre-defined LUT, editors could achieve a similar look without needing extensive color grading expertise. Applying a LUT is much faster than manual color grading, saving editors valuable time. Best example below.
