Open Reduction and Internal Fixation of a Scapula Fractures with Junbluth Forceps ✨ Innovative Approach to Scapular Fractures ✨ Excited to share a surgical technique initially published by Gregory Cunningham, Alexandre Lädermann, and Robin Peter of Open Reduction and Internal Fixation (#ORIF) of #Scapular #Fractures, as applied to a 58-year-old male sailor who sustained a displaced complex scapular body fracture during a regatta. Click on the link to see the video on BeeMed! https://lnkd.in/eWQ8XWKR 🔍 Key Highlights of the Technique: Patient Setup: Under general anesthesia, the patient is positioned laterally to allow full movement of the upper limb.Surgical Access: An incision along the inferior scapular spine (Judet’s approach) exposes the fracture site without detaching the deltoid insertion. Fracture Reduction: Challenging reduction due to muscular forces and scapula's flat anatomy. Use of Jungbluth forceps for precise alignment of the inferior glenoid fragment, offering superior control compared to classic pointed forceps.Fixation: Reconstruction plates provide secure stabilization of the fracture. 📸 Postoperative imaging confirmed excellent fracture reduction, with immediate postoperative rehabilitation allowing passive and active exercises as tolerated. 🎯 Outcomes: Return to sport: ~6 weeks post-surgery. Full recovery: Achievable with pain-guided rehabilitation, ensuring excellent range of motion. The use of a Junbluth forceps, first published in Techniques in Orthopaedics (2012), emphasizes precise reduction and minimally invasive handling. We present a case of an extraphyseal distal radius fracture treated with closed reduction and percutaneous smooth Kirschner wire fixation that went on to premature physeal closure at the site of wire fixation.
