Bringing (startup-)innovation to forestry and beyond, into the heart of Europe – throwback to ELO / FFI conference @ Brussels🌱 Recently, we discussed key solutions towards environmental sustainability in the course of our conference in Brussels, organized by ELO and FFI. In this regard, several startups from the Future Forest Initiative’s accelerator program and network presented potential approaches tackling the identified core issues, underlining how the need for change fosters innovation. Naturally, we do not want to gatekeep their pioneering ideas: 1️⃣ Skyseed – the German startup tackles the current challenge of afforestation by combining drones, pelletized seeds and knowledge about forest-ecology. Dominik P., thus demonstrated how this enables the startup to analyze trees and soils to deliver smart and sustainable reforestation in Germany and across Europe 2️⃣ 44.moles – a fast-growing subsidiary of the Waldholz Gruppe, is dedicated to the creation of ethical and sustainable carbon offsets with a focus on transparency. Represented by Cynthia Lanor, Chief of Staff, the startup presented its method to accurately measure the carbon to be offset. 3️⃣ eco:fibr GmbH – Michelle Spitzer, Co-Founder, was showcasing how pineapple production in Costa Rica offers opportunities to establish a more sustainable paper industry in Europe and America. Particularly, the team utilises waste material from pineapple cultivation as a raw material to produce high-quality pulp. We thank all participating startups for their inspiring inputs and hope that these impulses serve as food for thought for further future-oriented business models! We are convinced that the diversity of the forest’s current challenges requires a variety of innovative approaches. 👉 In our Future Forest #Accelerator, we thus foster forward-thinking #startups in the context of forests and climate and are already preparing our next batch – information will follow soon! AMAZON , Don’t destroy AMAZON Our forests are disappearing at an alarming rate. Over the past few decades, we've witnessed the devastating impact of deforestation, with millions of acres of lush, vibrant ecosystems being cleared for various purposes. This alarming trend not only destroys the natural habitats of countless species but also contributes to climate change, soil erosion, and the disruption of vital water cycles. It's time we take action to protect and restore our precious forests and oceans and finally Earth before it's too late. NATO or other Organizations are also responsible for protecting our forests and oceans and all humanity with peace . They should respect to all thoughts without considering racism and finally developing to keep our planet Earth . We have no other place to live as alternative except Earth . Let’s young leaders control future of our planet. NATO and Organization are responsible to bring peace not to manufacturing war guns and tools . We are all in one ship . 1 billion animals are killed in the leather industry every year 🌍😢 And 800,000 tonnes of leather go to waste as off-cuts, trimmings, and shavings. This week's startup is tackling this problem head-on! 🚀 DESSERTO, founded by Marte Cázarez Duarte and Adrian Lopez Velarde, makes organic and biodegradable vegan leather from cactus 🌵. It lasts up to 10 years! Cactus is abundant in Mexico and is a great carbon sink 🌍 The company claims that their 14 acres of cactus farm absorb 8,100 tons of CO2 per year 🌳 Solutions like this are revolutionizing the vegan leather industry. 🌱💚 We need more such solutions to help us make a sustainable world. I'm thinking about wealth generation and rejuvenation in any given area, and I guess ultimately everywhere on Earth. Conventional mechanisms exist because they work for a given amount of time according to how sustainable they are. Less sustainable options have that advantage of immediacy in low capex but higher opex and usually other side-effects like pollution and ecological disruption, even destruction in the long term. Export can bring money into an area but the resource is being depleted usually. This is where I think my startup Rinu Ecologic and connected operations can usher in next level circular generative economics. The whole premise is to circularise and regenerate but with what I call Regenerative Leverage Factor. Here we take waste resources and leverage atmospheric CO2 and some nitrogen with sunlight and other renewable energies and create over 20 times the physical resource as the fully utilised waste that went into it. We put this into the "Rinu Ecologic Machine" and use that key to unlock leveraged regenerative surplus, say for export, via Ecologic Aviation Systems et al, for wealth creation at the source, and the destination. How? Rinu Hubs. Serving and interconnecting global communities within the next 10 years, repairing and rejuvenating economies, natural Earth systems, ecology & environment, cleanly, completely. Rinu Ecologic is right now being birthed in Lisbon, Portugal. The vision, vibrancy and support of the Lisbon startup ecosystem makes it our ideal new home and the epicentre of Total Regenerative Sustainability by Rinu Ecologic 💫 As the founder I would like to extend a hearty thank you to Unicorn Factory & Green Hub for bringing me into the family, and an early thank you to COREangels International for casting their expert gaze towards the Rinu Initiative 🌱

SEEN IN GREEN: Ecotone Raises $3M to Scale Waste-to-Fertilizer Tech Exciting news for sustainability innovators! Ecotone Renewables, a Pittsburgh-based startup, has successfully secured $3 million in seed funding to further develop its groundbreaking technology that turns food waste into organic fertilizer. 🌱 Founded in 2019, Ecotone's patented Zero Emissions Upcycling System (ZEUS) converts food waste into liquid plant fertilizer—Soil Sauce—and clean energy, helping businesses reduce landfill waste and support a circular economy. So far, Ecotone has diverted over 200,000 pounds of food waste and deployed 8 ZEUS systems across Pennsylvania and Rhode Island. With new support from investors like Cisco and Earth Foundry, Ecotone plans to scale internationally and accelerate its impact. This achievement follows a big year for the company, with all three co-founders—CEO Dylan Lew, COO Kyle Wyche, and CFO Elliot Bennet—being named to Forbes' 30 Under 30 List for Energy and Green Tech. Looking ahead, Ecotone continues to grow its mission, including using the $300,000 prize from winning a pitch competition at the University of Pittsburgh in 2023 to further enhance its tech. 🌍💡 #Sustainability #CleanTech #WasteToFertilizer #Innovation #CircularEconomy #GreenTech #Startups #TechForGood
