For the “Good Daughters” and “Strong Sons” Did you grow up feeling like love and approval were tied to specific roles in your family? For so many of us, especially in BIPOC communities, being a “good daughter” often meant putting others first, while being a “strong son” meant keeping feelings hidden to stay “tough.” These family roles can shape how we connect with loved ones even into adulthood. When we feel responsible for everyone’s well-being, it can make setting boundaries or expressing our own needs feel like breaking the “rules.” Over time, these roles can even create feelings of resentment, guilt, or loneliness as we try to balance family expectations with our desire for authentic connection. Here are a few steps to help redefine these roles and make family love feel healthier and more secure: 💎Reflect on your family role – Notice when you feel obligated to “play a part” rather than show up as your true self. 💎Practice setting gentle boundaries – It’s okay to say no or to prioritize your own needs without guilt. 💎Communicate honestly – Let family members know how you’re feeling and what you need. Trust that real connection thrives on honesty, not perfection. 💎Seek support if needed – Breaking out of long-standing roles is hard! Therapy, support groups, or even a workbook can help guide you through. In our upcoming "Attachment Style Makeover" workbook, we dive deep into family attachment patterns and explore ways to honor yourself and your family relationships in a healthy way. Let’s redefine what it means to show up for family, with love and integrity. 💖 #GenerationalHealing #FamilyAttachment #RedefineFamilyLove #AttachmentStyleMakeover
