Yesterday marked the start of Black History Month. 🖤 This year's theme is 'Reclaiming Narratives' focusing on recognising and correcting stories about Black History and culture. This got me thinking about narratives that have been directed or imposed on me and mines. 🤔 Where do these narratives come from? Who is reinforcing them? Who do they benefit? How do we break these narrative? All questions we should all explore if we're truly serious about equity. To explore further, my challenge to you is: ⏳️Make some time to seek out stories about the contributions from the black community past and present. 🌎Explore the rich history of the African diaspora. (Please don't use AI for this) 🗓Volunteer your time to help those who are marginalised. 📖 Pick up a book (I've heard BookTok is the way to go). Be part of the change. PS, this learning shouldn't just be reserved for October, feel free to keep this energy the other 11 months of the year.🤪 Also, I'll be sharing some narratives that I believe should be reclaimed, stay tuned.

#FrequencyFriday "Did integration fail Black people? Imagine integration as one of the most detrimental events to our community: Black entrepreneurship decreased, Black unemployment increased, Black marriages decreased, and single-parent homes increased. They didn’t integrate us to give us equality; they integrated us because we did far better than expected without them." - Dr. Ken

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when enslaved African Americans in Texas finally learned of their emancipation, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Despite legal freedom, Black people continue to face modern-day forms of enslavement, especially through mass incarceration and economic marginalization caused by systemic inequalities upheld by capitalism. The legacy of slavery has deeply shaped capitalism, exploiting Black labor and continuing racial disparities that persist today. It's crucial that we recognize Juneteenth not just as a historical event but as a call to action for collective efforts toward Black liberation. This includes addressing economic inequalities and challenging systemic racism in all its forms. It's essential to continually educate ourselves, amplify Black voices, and actively build a world where there is safety and liberation of all Black people. #Juneteenth
