The Kyphobrace is a specialized brace designed to treat spinal conditions like hyperkyphosis (an excessive forward curvature of the thoracic spine). Some of the key benefits include: 1. **Posture Correction**: It helps realign the spine by encouraging a more upright posture, which can prevent the progression of kyphosis. 2. **Pain Relief**: By reducing the forward curvature, the Kyphobrace can alleviate back pain and discomfort caused by the misalignment of the spine. 3. **Non-Surgical Solution**: For mild to moderate kyphosis, it can serve as a non-invasive alternative to surgery, reducing the need for more aggressive treatments. 4. **Spine Support**: The brace provides support to the thoracic spine, which can help reduce strain on surrounding muscles and ligaments, allowing them to heal. 5. **Improved Mobility**: By correcting posture and reducing pain, the brace can help patients move more comfortably and with greater ease. 6. **Enhanced Aesthetics**: For people with visible spinal curvature, it can improve physical appearance by promoting a more natural posture. 7. **Prevention of Further Deformity**: By stabilizing the spine, it can prevent the kyphotic curve from worsening over time. 8. **Customization**: Kyphobraces are customized to fit the patient, ensuring better comfort and effectiveness. #bethesdaspineandposture #kyphosis #kyphobrace #bethesdaMD

Physical Therapy Guide to Total Knee Replacement (Arthroplasty) A total knee replacement, or arthroplasty, involves replacing damaged parts of the bones at the knee joint. The knee is the most replaced joint in the body. It is best to consult both your surgeon and physical therapist when deciding whether to have a total knee replacement. Your decision should be based on how much your pain or loss of function is affecting your quality of life. Usually, people have total knee replacement surgery after trying conservative treatment options for: Knee joint damage due to osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, other bone diseases, or fracture. Knee replacement removes arthritis, and it will not return in the replaced joint. Knee pain or alignment problems in the leg that cause difficulty with walking or doing daily activities. https://lnkd.in/gwEB6SFE #spectrumtherapy #physicaltherapy #physicaltherapyelpaso #elpasotexas #qualitymatters #7locations

📢 A Patient's Journey with Cervical Myelopathy and Recovery through Laminoplasty After years of progressive numbness, balance issues, and loss of dexterity from cervical myelopathy, this patient experienced a rapid decline in symptoms. Cervical myelopathy, often caused by bone spurs, disc herniations, or tissue buildup compressing the spinal cord, can feel like losing control of one’s body. Thankfully, she sought immediate care and underwent a cervical laminoplasty, a procedure that relieves spinal pressure while preserving neck mobility. Unlike a fusion, this surgery expands the spinal canal with small plates, allowing for full neck function recovery in 6-12 weeks. I discuss this precise and effective technique in The Spine Encyclopedia, which empowers patients to reclaim their quality of life. #spinesurgery #lowbackpain #spinesurgeon

Gynecomastia treatment offers more than just physical changes - it restores confidence, expands clothing options, improves posture, and renews enjoyment in physical activities! Unfortunately, many men hesitate to seek treatment due to a lack of trust in surgeons, leading to a significant decline in their quality of life. Thankfully, there are multiple approaches to correcting gynecomastia, and Dr. Schwartz will guide you through the options during your initial consultation. For moderate to severe cases, surgery may be recommended, involving incisions around the areola or under the armpit to remove excess breast tissue. Alternatively, liposuction may suffice for mild cases, targeting small fat pockets in the chest area. Once the desired chest shape and size are achieved, Dr. Schwartz can also resize the nipple and areola complex, restoring a more masculine appearance if they have stretched due to breast tissue growth. Trust Dr. Schwartz to help you regain confidence and vitality with personalized gynecomastia treatment! 👏 https://bit.ly/3VruUo2 #beverlyhillsplasticsurgeon #gynecomastia #plasticsurgery

A posterior repair, also known as a posterior colporrhaphy, is a surgical procedure to repair or reinforce the fascial support layer between the rectum and the vagina. A perineorrhaphy is the term used for the operation that repairs the perineal body. The perineal body (the supporting tissue between vaginal and anal openings) also helps to support the back wall of the vagina. The perineum is the area that is often damaged when tears or episiotomies occur during childbirth. This area may need to be repaired along with the back wall of the vagina to give perineal support and in some cases reduce the vaginal opening. About 1 in 10 women require surgery for vaginal prolapse. A prolapse of the back (posterior) wall of the vagina is usually due to a weakness in the strong tissue layer (fascia) that divides the vagina from the lower part of the bowel (rectum). This weakness may cause difficulty when passing a bowel movement, a feeling of fullness or dragging in the vagina or an uncomfortable bulge that may extend beyond the vaginal opening. Other names for the weakness of the back wall of the vagina include rectocele and enterocele. 3 common misconceptions about knee replacement surgery: Myth #1: Knee replacement surgery is a last resort. Fact: Knee replacement is often an effective solution for extensive arthritis or severe joint damage that significantly impacts quality of life. It shouldn't be delayed unnecessarily when conservative treatments like physical therapy, strength training, cortisone injections and pain medications have been exhausted. Myth #2: Recovery is long and arduous. Fact: While recovery requires effort and time, modern techniques and rehabilitation protocols have significantly improved outcomes. Most patients can walk with assistance within hours of surgery and begin physical therapy immediately. Your baseline health and fitness level play a huge role in the speed of your recovery. Myth #3: Knee replacements only last 10-15 years. Fact: Modern knee implants are highly durable and can last 20 years or even longer with proper care and maintenance. #kneereplacementsurgery #kneereplacementmyths

Arthrofibrosis is a condition where too much scar tissue forms in and around the knee after a total knee replacement (TKR), causing stiffness and pain: 1. Inflammation and Healing Response: After knee surgery, the body reacts to the trauma by sending signals to heal the area. This involves releasing chemicals called cytokines that help form a blood clot and attract immune cells (white blood cells) to the site. 2. Excessive Scar Tissue Formation: - Chemicals like PDGF and TGF-β promote the growth of cells that produce collagen and other materials, which build up and create thick scar tissue. - VEGF is another chemical that increases inflammation and scar tissue by promoting new blood vessel growth in the knee. 3. Lack of daily high intensity stretching: With home exercises only being 10% of the torque of a physiotherapist’s manual therapy the knee isn't moved enough after surgery. So tissues become stiff, and the excessive production of collagen leads to continuation of scar tissue build up. This causes a loss of ROM, impacting simple daily activities. Key Takeaway: Arthrofibrosis occurs due to an overactive inflammatory response and lack of high intensity stretching after knee surgery, resulting in dense scar tissue that restricts knee motion.
