To challenge a belief, it helps to confront it with contrary evidence. It might not, and should not necessarily, change a belief, but it can create a level of cognitive dissonance that invites more considered reasoning about a topic, and perhaps helps maintain the balance of belief closer to neutral than extreme. Many a) won't seek that evidence, being quite happy in their point of view as is, and/or b) simply do not have the right opportunity or environment for them to naturally experience this contrary evidence. This article is a fantastic example of people seizing the opportunity to create a positive lived experience that might just reside as contrary evidence in someone's long term memory. The willingness not just of the mosque worshippers to broach conversation with the protesters, but also of the protesters to engage with these approaches, should be headline news. #thinkingskills #criticalthinking #cognitivebias #cognitivedissonance #logicalreasoning #inclusivity

Let’s talk about the use of stigma words. Stigmatizing words are terms or phrases that carry negative connotations and contribute to the marginalization or discrimination of individuals or groups. Every individual deserves dignity and a second chance. Using respectful language helps to reduce stigma and acknowledge the humanity and potential for change in individuals who have been involved with the justice system. Our words matter! Let’s replace stigmatizing labels with respect and humanity. #bofai #monday #mondaymotivation #humanrights #EndTheStigma #RespectForAll #EmpowerNotLabel #correctionalhomes

The description of the dilemma and some solutions are well-articulated in this powerful article: "Fostering honest conversations about privilege, historical injustices, and the experiences of marginalized groups is essential. By creating spaces for these uncomfortable topics, we can begin to diffuse prejudice and unconscious bias. Well-designed, evidence-based, expert-led facilitated conversations that address these issues on an individual and institutional level can be instrumental in creating that more inclusive environment we seek." https://lnkd.in/gQVgA8vC
