to engage more people? Contrary to belief, it’s not how loud one can shout, nor how many people you can reach? It’s about knowing who you want to reach, knowing what they are interested in, and what would make them interested in you? This applies to both community engagement and sales strategies, I call it the “Sniper v Shotgun” scenario (apologies for using guns but it works as an analogy - I’d genuinely love to hear suggestions for ‘friendlier” alternatives as I’d rather use something different if I could- suggestions in the comments please!). If you were to shoot a shotgun at a target over a certain distance, you’ll hit the target hundreds of times with the individual “shots”, but very few (if any), of those will hit the bullseye as the hundreds of shots “spray” over an area as they leave the barrel. With the sniper however, the shot is focussed with precision on the target and will undoubtedly hit the bullseye. Knowing and understanding the two main reasons why people engage will help you better engage people but if you can meet BOTH reasons and hit the “sweet spot” in the middle, even better! Just to note! In my opinion, when we’re engaging in a community development context, engagement is a lot more than a ‘tick in the box’. It needs to be meaningful; a conversation needs to be had, people need to be genuinely listened to, and there needs to a level of exchange, rather than single one-way communication. #enagegement #community #business

I LOVE learning more about Gen Z and how their behaviors are changing the apartment industry. Besides Lia Nichole Smith's truth bombs below (all solid gold by the way) I thought I would add to Lia's list and share a few more characteristics that drive their behaviors: 4. Everything old is new again - Barbie, Care Bears, rotary phones, and Trolls are just a few of the "been-there seen that" topics this nostalgia-loving generation is embracing. 5. They are very social so promoting community-building events on websites, and social media, during the touring process is key! If you offer it, advertise it. 6. Gen Z has a new perspective and is willing to stop aligning with a brand to force change. The way marketing has targeted consumers for the past two generations won't work with this group. I've been watching our Gen Z focus group videos and these renters are cracking me up and dropping truth bombs galore! 3 things I've learned so far: 1. Earliest age for their first social media account: 9 years old (it was Instagram) 2. Photos and videos of vacant apartments are "sad" (and they want them to stop) 3. Little known fact: Reddit is gaining traction as a source for consumer information (many are using it to discuss brands with their peers) Knowing the youngest of this generation is currently 11 years old, is your social strategy built to last?
