Isn't hindsight a wonderful thing? No amount of stress-relief activities can substitute for genuine self-care. True self-care is about more than just temporary fixes. It requires compassionate self-awareness, an acute understanding of our needs, and a commitment to meeting those needs purposefully. It's choosing actions that foster our physical, emotional, and mental health over the long haul rather than settling for quick, quick fixes. Reflecting on my own journey through burnout, I realise how crucial this understanding is. Now, I'm dedicated to guiding others in learning these invaluable skills. Even with knowing what needs to be done, carving out the time for self-care can seem impossible. And on the rare occasion we do find time, it's all too easy to fill it with countless other tasks. Even though we're aware it shouldn't feel this way, self-care can often feel selfish. Allow me to help you create a tangible plan to make time for yourself and foster the mental space to truly prioritise your well-being. This smiling 😃 trio meets weekly to discuss a variety of strategic initiatives across SpotDraft. As we usually do, we kick off with chit chat. Yesterday's meeting started with the 3 of us discussing how our respective development as humans and professionals has been driven by both our experiences, as well as self improvement and self care. Part of that self care involved having outlets like therapy. Yes, we discussed our therapists during a work call! As we were talking, it dawned on me how important it is for colleagues (and all of us, really) to be able to speak freely about our mental health. That's not something I grew up with and certainly not something that was kosher in a professional setting until fairly recently. Maybe it still isn't in too many environments, and I hope that changes. Because...it...makes...a...world...of...a...difference!! Grateful to work with colleagues who not only value the importance of their own well being, but also feel safe to talk about it openly. So I told them I wanted to capture a screen shot and asked if it was ok to make this post...they obviously agreed. #mentalhealth #wellbeing #selfcare #professionaldevelopment

🧠 On #WorldMentalHealthDay, let’s talk about something we all need more of—self-care. Getting caught up in the hustle, overextending ourselves, and pushing our well-being to the back burner is easy. But self-care isn’t just a buzzword or trend—it’s a commitment to value ourselves enough to prioritize our health, happiness, and mental well-being. When we invest in quality self-care, we not only look better—we feel better, have more energy, and develop a more positive outlook on life. Self-care is linked to improved mental health, enhanced self-esteem, and a greater sense of self-worth. At Hammer & Nails Grooming for Guys, we believe self-care is vital. Whether it’s taking time for a relaxing hand and foot treatment or simply enjoying a moment to recharge, factoring yourself into the equation of your life matters. Self-care is a powerful form of self-respect. Invest in yourself. Your mental health matters. 💪 #MentalHealthMatters #SelfCareForMen #HammerAndNails #MensWellness #PrioritizeYou

In her book "Real Self-Care," Dr Lakshmin says that self-care doesn’t consist of the “stuff” we do to de-stress; rather it is made up of the connection and clarity we have regarding our needs & limitations, and the hard work of setting boundaries to preserve and protect ourselves. I loved her understanding that there’s no magic formula to “self-care your way out of depression,” for example (as Maria Bamford puts it in her book, “there’s no medicine like medicine” 😜). Our needs are all different and there’s no one-size-fits-all activity that’s guaranteed to “fix us.” In fact, engaging in self-care activities is more a SIGN that our mental health is doing better, than a solution to when it’s flagging. In other words, you can tell I’m doing better whenever I pick up drawing! What's your barometer of wellness? In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, let's talk about the importance of box breathing for healthcare workers. Box breathing, or square breathing, is a simple yet powerful technique to manage stress and improve focus. For healthcare professionals facing high-pressure situations daily, this practice can be a game-changer. Taking just a few minutes to breathe in for four counts, hold for four, exhale for four, and hold again for four can help reset and calm the mind. Prioritizing mental well-being enables us to provide the best care for our patients. Let's breathe together! #MentalHealthAwareness #BoxBreathing #ExcelMedstaff #WellBeing #StressManagement

It’s #SelfCareWeek, a time to focus on the actions we can take to look after our physical health and mental wellbeing. Winter can often be a time when our mood is low, but small #SelfCare activities can help us feel better - like a walk in the park, enjoying a coffee with a friend or even gazing out the window 😊. If you find yourself struggling with difficult feelings, talk them over with someone you trust such as a friend, family member or a professional. Don't feel alone. Dade City Police Chief, James Walters, is a big advocate for mental health and wellness and we love when he sends us great quotes. He shared this thought provoking one with us this week. Every day, we carry with us more than just the physical items in our bags and pockets. We bear the weight of our responsibilities, worries, expectations, and past experiences. This can have a profound impact on our mental health, shaping our thoughts, emotions, and overall well-being. The things we carry may be heavy, but they don’t have to define us. By recognizing their weight and impact, and taking steps to manage them, we can proactively focus on our mental wellness. Embracing self-care, setting boundaries, and seeking support are powerful tools that can help lighten our load. Remember, it’s okay to ask for help and to prioritize your well-being. Here’s to clear skies and a beautiful day! #survivefirst #firstresponders #mentalhealthawareness #weseeyou
