January 2024 marked my 16-year anniversary in the railroad industry. I don’t typically dwell on the past, but a message from a friend who started this journey with me had me reminiscing on the path taken and the individuals that impacted me along the way. Today, the operating and safety side of the railroad is unrecognizable from what it was when I started my career. There have been countless safety initiatives implemented throughout my years. From “safety minded” to “safety focused” to “sending everyone home the way they arrived” to my favorite “safety culture.” The intentions behind all of these were in line with where the industry wanted to be at the time. From my perspective, the leader behind each initiative was what made for a success or a failure, or in some cases, nothing at all. I have been fortunate to work with many impactful leaders across the industry. The experience I’ve gained, along with the lessons and knowledge that I received from mentors and colleagues is what wrote the operating manuals for Crooked River Railroad. And we are evolving just like the industry always will be. It truly does start with having the right people in the right positions. Trusting your team to make the right decisions is easy when your team shares the same vision. Today, we celebrate a team dedicated to making those right decisions every time…Crooked River Railroad // 3-Year Injury Free

Have you ever witnessed a plane receiving a water salute? It’s an incredible sight! This tradition, where fire trucks spray arcs of water over an aircraft, is a mark of honor and respect. Often, it's reserved for special occasions like a pilot's final flight before retirement, the arrival of a new aircraft, or to honor dignitaries and significant achievements in aviation. But what can we learn from this ceremony in our own lives? 1. Celebrating Milestones: Just like how a water salute commemorates an important moment, we must recognize and celebrate the milestones in our careers and personal lives. Every achievement, big or small, deserves acknowledgment. 2. Respect and Recognition: The water salute is a powerful symbol of respect. Similarly, in our professional environments, we must show appreciation for the contributions of others. Acknowledging efforts builds strong teams and fosters a culture of recognition. 3. Embracing Traditions: Traditions like the water salute remind us of the importance of heritage and rituals in both our professional and personal lives. These traditions ground us, offering a sense of continuity and shared values, which are essential for growth and teamwork. 4. Take a Moment to Reflect: Finally, it’s a reminder to pause and reflect on our journeys. We are often moving so fast that we forget to look back on how far we’ve come. Like a plane completing a journey, we, too, deserve moments of recognition for our efforts. If you ever get a chance to see a plane receiving a water salute, think about your own achievements and the importance of honoring your journey. What milestones have you celebrated recently? #WaterSalute #CelebratingMilestones #RespectAndRecognition #CareerGrowth #TraditionInAviation #PauseAndReflect #Leadership #Teamwork #ContinuousLearning

All Work and No Play: Why Balance Matters There’s a saying: "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy." While I spend much of my time immersed in technology and aviation consulting, I know firsthand how important it is to step back and find moments that truly feed the soul. One of my favorite memories is a short four-day weekend trip my wife and I took, flying from Indianapolis to Ocracoke Island (W95), a hidden gem in North Carolina’s Outer Banks. As a former Naval Aviator with countless hours flying over water, there’s something humbling and exhilarating about leaving the coastline behind in a Cessna 172RG, knowing that somewhere over the horizon lies a runway on a tiny barrier island. I planned this flight meticulously, starting days in advance. From virtual practice flights to weather checks, double-checking the aircraft, topping off the fuel at a midpoint, and ensuring every detail was in order—everything was about managing the risks so the reward could be enjoyed to its fullest. The reward? A breathtakingly beautiful island, rich in history, with great food, friendly locals, and unforgettable views. But for us, the trip carried even more meaning. My wife had promised to spread her mom’s ashes in the Atlantic, and being that far from shore, the moment couldn’t have been more fitting. For any pilots reading this, if you have a bucket list of destinations, I highly recommend adding Ocracoke Island. It’s an incredible experience that reminds you why we fly—not just for the journey but for the destinations that leave a lasting imprint. What are some of your favorite flying destinations? Do you have a bucket list spot you’ve checked off recently or one you’re still dreaming about? Let’s share some inspiration for future adventures! #WorkLifeBalance #PilotLife #AviationAdventure #FractionalCTO #LeadershipMatters #Cybersecurity #AviationLeadership

One year in the bag for Otto! What a journey it has been for Otto Mobility DMCC! While the wider journey spans a much longer period, the contrast between our pre-launch jitters and our current standing is something everyone involved should be immensely proud of. The days of anxiously waiting for our first customer to discover, download, and trust our app feel like a distant memory now, although doubt certainly did make its presence felt. At Otto, our goal was never as flamboyant as wanting to revolutionise the industry or claim to transform the mobility sector. Many others aspire to such grandeur, and we are more than happy to let them take on that challenge. Our aim was simple yet profound: to create a relatable and likeable brand that breaks away from the norm in an otherwise conservative and bland space. Central to this was ensuring our brand values were evident in our product delivery and, most importantly, in every customer interaction. I’m thrilled to say we are well on our way to achieving what we set out to do. A huge thank you to everyone involved. Firstly, to the Otto team who provide exceptional customer service day in and day out. To the brand and marketing teams at Ochre LLC, Fludium, and Igloo for tirelessly driving home our brand vision. And to the tech team at Prime Holding for their continued guidance and impeccable efficiency. Most importantly, thank you to our customers and partners; without you, we wouldn’t be where we are today. There’s so much more to come, and though it’s only the beginning, it has been a fantastic start! #weareotto #hbdotto #automotive #mobility #brand #brandbuilding #keepwatching
One year down, countless memories made! 🚗❤ Thank you for trusting us with your rides and your adventures. The road ahead looks brighter than ever—let’s keep cruising! #HBDOtto #OttoWrapped #CheersToOneYear
