No wonder we have a cost of living crisis. So, my GE dishwasher is not working properly - its due to a part in the sprayer preventing the top rack from washing. It's an extendable plastic cover - shouldn't cost no more than $10-20 and an easy fix. I go into a local parts and appliance store (I refuse to use Amazon unless I have no other options) - the employee there was super helpful but sadly informed me that to get the part I wanted, I'd have to buy an entire assembly just to get the part. $90 overall with shipping. Now, I have an older dishwasher, so getting a replacement part on hand makes sense, but this is a real conversation about how we now design modern this to break easily and making it impractical to fix something, forcing us to buy a brand new appliance (or phone or car or insert here). Whatever happened to using less? My oven is 40 years old. Original to my condo. Still works great. I'm running it into the ground. Same with my car. New appliances these days tend to break down easily, and because of chips, etc., they force you to "buy another a new appliance" - gotta keep GDP figures strong #latestagecapitalism In any case, big shout out to Ron's Appliance Repair in #lethbridge for exceptional customer service.

This drives me crazy. Appliances these days are built to be disposable.
