McDonalds & Burger King 🍔👑 For someone who isn’t very familiar with either, they’re indistinguishable. It’s like saying Coke vs. Pepsi. Unless you’re a die-hard fan of these companies, you’ll take one or the other, it’s no big deal at a restaurant if you ask for Pepsi and they say “Is Coke okay?” Now look at your own life. The projects you’re working on, the skills you have, the way you interact with others, your career as a whole and ask yourself one question. Are you a Pepsi that’s replaceable with a Coke? If you are, it’s time to rethink everything. The way you interact with people, the skills you learn, the books you read, the clubs you join, the clubs YOU START (start one). The adventures you go on, the museums you visit, and everything beyond. You have to be irreplaceable. You have to have such a unique perspective, so many quirky ideas, such diversified interests, and such odd friendships that when someone tells a co-worker “Oh, we don’t have a Megan, is a Kelly okay?” They scream HELL NO, we need the Megan, she’s the ONLY ONE for this.

Getting a quick lunch at apparently the only KFC/A&W in Boise - Further proof that if you want to be just even minimally successful in CX, hire people who care about others and possess a sense of urgency. No other requirements needed. For your growing business needs or maybe just your hunger, avoid big monopolistic competition, avoid providers that force you to play by their rules, and defintely avoid the restaurant on the corner of Chinden and Eagle Rd.

This may ruffle feathers a bit, not being a perspective agreeable to all, but.... BASIS FOR A CASE STUDY: If you're a small restaurant, not even a chain, hoping to become large and successful, a basic strategic approach is to evaluate your competition. Everyone knows this as foundational in business. McDonald's and Portillo's are open today (the 4th of July, Independence Day). As a smaller chain, especially if you're just getting started, why are you closed? "Well, you have to take some days and time off. Give yourself a break." Says people operating at the same level you're currently operating on. Yes, take breaks. However, work when others won't. But balance. I'm sure they're closing earlier than usual, but for now..... they're open. And tonight, they enjoy time and fireworks with their family. However, one thing those bigger chains aren't worried about, is not every restaurant is automatically a competitor. Where are you headed? And what does it take to get there?
