🚛 National Lorry Week 2024: Celebrating the Backbone of the UK! 🚛
Road Haulage Association (RHA) National Lorry Week 2024 is in full swing, with a three-week roadshow travelling across the UK from 21 October to 8 November! 🎉
The official National Lorry Week truck is visiting industry members, partners, and colleges to shine a spotlight on the crucial role lorries and drivers play in keeping supply chains moving across the country. It’s a fantastic opportunity to recognise the hard work of the people who ensure goods are delivered safely and efficiently.
This year, the campaign also promotes the push for future skills, legislation, and workforce development to support further economic growth in the logistics sector. 🚚📈
For those attending the road show, there’s an exciting opportunity to see a truck simulator in action, offering a glimpse into what it’s like to manoeuvre an HGV - an essential part of UK logistics.
Let’s celebrate the industry and the incredible people driving it forward! 💪

🚛 Excited to see the National Lorry Week kicking off today! It's an excellent opportunity to highlight the indispensable role that the haulage industry plays in our economy and daily lives.
Kudos to Richard James Smith of the Road Haulage Association (RHA) for centering this year’s campaign around 'skills and careers.' As we know, the transport and logistics sector offers a wide array of rewarding career paths, and it's important to inspire the next generation to consider a future in this vital field.
The interactive experiences, like the driving simulator, are innovative ways to engage and educate potential drivers about the reality of operating HGVs. ZeroMission is especially eager to see how this will spark interest among young people looking for dynamic career choices.
Let's rally behind the message: the haulage industry is not just essential; it's an aspirational career path filled with opportunities! Let’s make this National Lorry Week a success and celebrate the hard work of those who keep our economy moving.

This week has underscored the vital importance of Holyhead port for freight movements between Great Britain (GB) and the Republic of Ireland (ROI). As trade flows continue to evolve, Holyhead stands out as a key gateway. It facilitates not just goods but also economic connections between nations.
However, there’s a pressing issue that cannot be ignored: the severe shortage of parking for Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) in Holyhead and along the A55 corridor. This shortage poses significant challenges for drivers and logistics companies alike.
Imagine a bustling port where trucks arrive and depart, loaded with essential goods. Now picture those same trucks stuck on the road due to lack of parking spaces. It creates delays, increases stress for drivers, and can even disrupt supply chains. The ripple effect is felt across industries reliant on timely deliveries.
The need for more HGV parking facilities is urgent. Adequate parking not only helps manage traffic flow but also ensures that drivers have safe places to rest. This is crucial for maintaining safety standards on our roads.
Advocating for more HGV parking along this route should be a priority. Local authorities, businesses, and transport organizations must come together to address this issue. Investing in additional parking spaces will enhance operational efficiency and support the economy.
In conclusion, while Holyhead port plays an essential role in facilitating trade between GB and ROI, we cannot overlook the infrastructure needs that accompany it. Let’s push for better HGV parking solutions to ensure that our freight movements remain smooth and effective. Together, we can make a difference!
This is the busiest week in the year for the logistics industry. The closure of Holyhead Port, until the 19th December at the earliest, and the rerouting of freight to alternative ports is significantly adding to pressures. But as I said in this inteview with BBC Radio Ulster, the logistics industry is solution focused and resilient. Thank you to all the haulage companies and drivers out there who are working tirelessly to make sure we all have what we need for Christmas. #Logistics#HeroesLogistics UK

Brilliant post here by our soon-to-be closer friends at FleetCheck. The big 'stand out' statistic that a lorry driver spends, on average, 240 nights away from home is of particular note...
Can we raise the number of women in the profession? Are there any barriers, or are they self-perceived? Breaking down those to afford greater inclusion - engineering and aviation being a prime example; it would be a sound thing to see this percentage increase.
So yes, we join in with the 'hailing' of all lorry drivers - you are the driving force behind our country's supply chain, and we salute you.

Happy National Lorry Week! 🚛
This week marks 10 years of Road Haulage Association (RHA)'s National Lorry Week campaign, championing the incredible (and often unsung) heroes that keep our country moving.
To celebrate this milestone, here are some surprising facts about the lorry industry:
1. The first-ever lorry was invented in 1896 and was called the ‘Daimler Motor Lastwagen’. It could reach whopping speeds of up to 7mph!
2. Over 80% of all goods in the UK are transported by lorries, making them the quiet backbone of our daily lives.
3. Lorry drivers spend an estimated 240 nights away from home each year.
4. Only 1% of all lorry drivers are female – a small but mighty group of trailblazers!
5. According to research in New Zealand, the methane in the flatulence of one sheep could power a small lorry to go 25 miles a day…talk about natural gas!
Here’s to the hardworking drivers that keep everything moving!

🚛🔍 Attention partner carriers! The CVSA’s International Road check is approaching (May 14-16), highlighting road safety for commercial vehicles across North America.
As we prepare for this important event, we want to ensure all our carrier partners are informed and ready. This year, the focus areas include tractor protection systems and promoting alcohol/drug-free driving among truckers.
Remember, safety and compliance are key to maintaining our industry's standards. Let's work together to prioritize safety on the roads and ensure smooth operations during this period.
So we're curious how you feel about the upcoming checks.. Are you confident your fleet is ready, or is your team making last minute preparations to ensure your drivers and equipment is in tip top shape?? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
