Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a global health threat that requires immediate action from all of us. We can all take some simple steps to do our part, such as: - Practising proper hand hygiene - Getting vaccinated - Using antibiotics only when prescribed Although prevention is an important part of tackling AMR, it’s not enough. And we cannot only restrict use of antibiotics. We also need responsible use of novel antibiotics so we can urgently and efficiently counter the growing AMR threat. Let’s not wait until it’s too late. Together, we can #ActNow to secure a better future. Yesterday kicked off U.S. Antibiotic Awareness week: November 18 - 24! 💊💊💊 To fight #AntimicrobialResistance, we have to recognize that the health of people is closely connected to the health of animals and our shared environment. Everyone plays a role in fighting antimicrobial resistance! Antimicrobial resistance (AR) happens when germs bacteria and fungi develop the ability to defeat the drugs designed to kill them. 🦠 Infections caused by antimicrobial-resistant germs are difficult, and sometimes impossible, to treat. No one can completely avoid getting an infection, but there are steps you can take to reduce your risk and help stop the spread of germs. Actions you can take: 1. Clean your hands! 🧼 2. Get vaccinated! 💉 3. Use antibiotics and antifungals appropriately! 💊 4. Be aware of changes in your health! 🤧 5. Practice healthy habits with animals! 🐴🐈🐕 To learn more, check out these resources from the CDC! https://lnkd.in/e7U82Y-9

PSA: Whooping cough cases have skyrocketed nationwide in recent weeks and are now at a near-decade high in Arizona. As such, International Infection Prevention Week couldn’t come at a more crucial moment. Latest data from the Arizona Department of Health Services reveal 491 whooping cough cases have been reported in Arizona this year. Nearly 75-percent of those cases have occurred in Maricopa County alone. Clinically called pertussis, whooping cough is contagious through respiratory droplets - most often, coughing and sneezing. Young babies, elderly individuals and immunocompromised persons are at a higher risk for developing serious infection.
