Lorraine CarliNFPA Vice President, Outreach & Advocacy, recently spoke about the importance of codes and standards. Lorraine's testimony is paramount regarding the challenges and solutions in regard to fire prevention and life safety: "...Current building and fire codes include requirements for life-saving technologies such as smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors, and automatic fire sprinklers. But a significant gap remains: the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development estimates that approximately 570,000 multifamily public housing units were built before the implementation of sprinkler requirements. Today, many lack the essential fire protection offered by fire sprinklers, putting millions of lives at risk. Fire safety improvements in public housing must receive our heightened attention. All federally funded construction projects must be required to meet the most current fire and building codes. Further, all federal housing assistance needs to be tied to compliance with the most current codes..." The USFA Summit on Fire Prevention attendees, NFPA and many partners are working hard to address these issues to make a positive impact and reduce fire and life safety threats. Twice Exceptional? Dyslexic?
Yale should be more likely than Jail, but we fail to identify these students and too many end up in jail!
Most educators are never afforded opportunities to understand cognition before they become teachers or even during their lifelong tenure as teachers. This sets up too many students to struggle. Cognition drives learning and there is a proper way to teach for students to learn optimally….and it has nothing to do with being a subject matter expert.
In addition to that gap in our system, every classroom contains a room of cognitively diverse students, which inevitably affects their ability to process information. Most of these struggles go unseen or misdiagnosed as we judge the misbehaviors or treat the visible symptoms (e.g. attentiveness caused by weak auditory working memory, anxiety caused by slow processing speed) rather than learn to identify the root cause and or differentiate instruction accordingly.
The consequence of failing to train our educators to master cognition lead to frustration and failure for our students. It doesn’t stop there. Failing leads to suffering and frustration, which often lead to risky behavior, causing millions of incarcerations per year. I know this first hand from relatives who were undiagnosed and my own personal experiences failing and misbehaving in school.
I suffered for a decade (in silence) as I coped by skipping more clases than I attended and attending more detention than anyone in my school’s history.
FACTS: 2/3 of juvenile detention are dyslexics; along with 50% of drug and alcohol abuse while 40% of the most successful entrepreneurs and 50% of NASA scientists are also dyslexics. These are innate problem solvers wired for divergent thinking but our failure to identify and support them while in school drives them to suffer and escape by self medicating and other risky behaviors. We can do better, which is why I’m delighted to support the International Truancy and Dropout Prevention Conference as their Keynote Speaker.

✨ Never Stop Dreaming — It’s Your Life’s Pulse ✨
Do you remember the last time you were so excited about something that it kept you awake? That’s the fire of a dream. Dreams are the inner compass, the true north that leads us, even when everything seems like it’s going off course. The day we stop dreaming isn’t just the day we stop moving forward; it’s the day we stop really living.
Life, of course, doesn’t make it easy. Ask anyone who’s ever tried to follow their passion, and you’ll hear stories of obstacles, mistakes, and, of course, the good old-fashioned “what on earth am I doing?” moments. But let’s talk about that one step forward, two steps back dance we all know so well. Ever heard of Walt Disney? He was fired from a job because they said he “lacked imagination.” Yes, the same guy who dreamed up talking animals and whole worlds! Or J.K. Rowling, who faced rejection after rejection before one publisher finally gave Harry Potter a chance.
Or take the parable of the Chinese bamboo tree: After planting it, for the first four years, you see… nothing. It looks like nothing is happening, but beneath the surface, it’s developing strong roots. In the fifth year, it suddenly grows 80 feet in six weeks! Our dreams can feel like that bamboo tree—sometimes, it feels like there’s no visible progress, but trust that the roots are growing strong.
Truth is, the things that test us are also what help us grow. Every rejection, every closed door, every stumble along the way can be a building block if we choose to see it that way. And sometimes, the only thing left to do is laugh, pick ourselves up, and keep going, knowing that the best stories are never just smooth sailing.
Keep pushing, keep laughing, and never let that spark go out. 🕯️
Remember: We only get one life. You got to leave it, breath it and take it all in. The good and bad. The happy and the sorrow.
Whatever you do; make your story worth leaving and telling. You never know…there may be a time that your legacy will leave forever through the writings of the ones you used to know…the ones that cherished you but never knew…the ones that you inspired and made it because of you…so amplify that value by 100, 1000, 10000 or more…this can provide and heal the World more than you know.
After all, if your ‘dream’ creates more ‘dreams’ then you were actually able to fulfill more than you ever knew you could…Never lose faith…never lose your dream…Never lose You…this is your value to rhe World…

At the age of 65, a man living in a small, run-down house and driving an old car, was surviving on $99 social security checks. Realizing he needed a change, he took his delicious chicken recipe and began traveling from state to state, trying to sell it to restaurants.
After facing over 1000 rejections, he finally received his first acceptance on the 1009th attempt. This man was Colonel Harland Sanders, and that moment marked the birth of Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC).
His story is a testament to the power of perseverance and self-belief, even in the face of repeated rejection

If you have been subjected to extreme cruelty because you shared your vulnerabilities with an unsafe person, (even if you are married to them) this is a sign that you may be dealing with a character-disordered person. Your safety is your priority above all else. Do not share with these people. If you are in a domestic violence situation, never tell the perpetrator you are leaving. Make a safety plan first.

It’s been more than 10 years that Dr. Brene Brown has been teaching about vulnerability…
It‘s time we learn to distinguish with whom we can be vulnerable and who will shred us into pieces and use our kindness against us, if we approach them with vulnerability.
🇺🇸 The Power of Presidential Pardons: A Controversial Move by Joe Biden? 🤔
Recently, the topic of presidential pardons has sparked intense discussions, especially after President Joe Biden's decision to pardon his son, Hunter Biden. The use of this medieval power — which grants clemency to individuals under certain legal circumstances — has raised questions about its role in modern politics.
While pardons are typically a tool to offer forgiveness and remedy injustices, critics argue that using such powers for personal or political reasons can undermine the trust in the system.
This incident has reignited debates on accountability, political influence, and the transparency of the justice system. ⚖️
Should the presidential pardon power be limited to only matters of fairness or is it a tool for political maneuvering? 💭
It’s essential to balance justice, personal interests, and public perception when wielding such significant powers.

As a private matter his action is understandable, humane even. Yet Mr Biden is also the president, so that is not the standard. It is an act of hypocrisy
