“The extra income helped me buy 20 cents of land recently.” Gunda Bhaskar Rao, a paddy farmer, adopted the Seed Drill Machine through our Climate Action initiative. By attaching the Seed Drill to his tractor, Bhaskar now sows seeds in straight lines, allowing better airflow and sunlight to reach the crops. This simple shift has reduced pest attacks, improved yields, and cut labour costs—saving him around Rs 2,000 per acre each season. Beyond his land, he rents the machine to sow on another 25 acres, boosting his income and creating opportunities to expand his farm. At Dr. Reddy’s Foundation, our Climate Action and Environment interventions help farmers like Bhaskar adapt to changing climate conditions, improve yields, and increase incomes—all while reducing agriculture’s environmental footprint! #agriculture #farmers #climate #ClimateAction #impact #sustianability #SDGs #drreddysfoundation

𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐅𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐬 Climate change is not just a distant concern; it's a present reality with severe consequences, especially for smallholder farmers who rely on rainfed crops. During a session I facilitated on climate-smart agriculture, these harsh and lived realities were brought to light. A farmer with over 22 years of experience shared his story—a man who had never bought maize in his life is now forced to purchase it from the Food Reserve Agency. His children are travelling over 50 kilometres to find grazing land for their animals. This is the reality of climate change displacement and the struggle for survival. Farmers also recounted the financial losses they face. Livestock that was once valued at K10,000 is now being sold for as little as K2,000, as they fear the animals might not survive. The desperation brought on by climate change is also contributing to a rise in early marriages and teenage pregnancies as poverty tightens its grip on homes. Yet, amid these challenges, there is resilience. Farmers are adapting, shifting their livelihoods to survive. However, critical gaps remain. They need a guaranteed water supply to sustain their gardens and better market linkages to manage their harvests efficiently. As we gather these community experiences, it is clear that our advocacy must intensify. We need to continue to engage with the government to implement deliberate measures and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure not just the provision of inputs but also the secure water through borehole drilling and other means. In my presentation and concluding remarks, I highlighted the fact that farmers must be united and coordinated. The time to act is now. We owe it to our farmers and to the future of agriculture in our communities. Scholarly greetings #Climatechange #Climatesmartagriculture #GenderInclusion

Global food demand continues to rise all while the amount of arable land declines and changing #climate conditions make farmers' jobs more challenging. Fortunately, history has demonstrated that through innovation we have been able to increase #productivity on existing agricultural land to sustainably feed a growing population. We will need to continue to lean into agricultural innovation to both feed and protect the planet. #AgInnovation https://ow.ly/SUMp50R9p9o

Happy Farmers Day Salute to those who work in Acers not in Hours 🎋🍀🌾 Farmers' Day is celebrated to honor the relentless efforts and contributions of farmers in sustaining societies and driving agricultural economies. This day serves as a reminder of their hard work, resilience, and critical role in ensuring food security. However, farmers today face immense challenges due to the changing climate, including unpredictable weather patterns, prolonged droughts, flooding, and extreme temperatures. These changes not only reduce crop yields but also increase the cost of farming due to the need for advanced technologies, irrigation systems, and climate-resilient seeds. Small-scale farmers, in particular, are vulnerable, as they often lack the resources to adapt effectively. Despite these challenges, farmers continue to persevere, adapting innovative techniques and sustainable practices to safeguard agriculture. Farmers' Day is not only a celebration but also a call to action for governments, organizations, and individuals to support farmers in building resilience against climate change. #indianagriculture #kissndivas #sustainableagriculture #indianfarmer

🧑🏻🌾 When it comes to #financingagriculture, #smallholderfarmers —defined as farmers who operate on <5 hectares of land— are particularly impacted by these financing gaps given their low levels of income and high vulnerability to climate shocks. Smallholder farmers represent over 95% of the world’s farms and provide up to 80% of the food produced and 40% in #developingcountries. 🌏 In Southeast Asia, there are roughly 100M smallholder farmers with a financing demand of about USD 100M annually—however, less than one-third of this demand is currently being met. Yesterday we published our 25th newsletter on Financing Agriculture, and we featured Dien Wong of PasarMIKRO about how their efforts to #digitize agri-traders in service of solving these problems. In Zeze, Tanzania, agriculture is our lifeline, but climate change, drought, and unsustainable farming have severely impacted yields. Did you know? 🍽️ 95% of the food we eat comes from the soil. 📈 Sustainable soil management could increase food production by up to 58%! At MVG, we are taking action: ✅ Transforming agricultural waste into biochar: This boosts soil health, restores fertility, and increases yields. ✅ Empowering communities: Over 20,000 people have gained the knowledge and tools to adapt to climate challenges and build food security. This World Soil Day, let’s commit to protecting the soils that sustain us, ensuring a resilient, food-secure future for all. 🌍✨

Lets face it. The Big Question is, How do we feed the ever-growing population sustainably? As population grows, so does the demand for food and the need to produce more, yet the Agriculture sector is facing trying times; - Flash floods ravaging farmlands downstream, - Unpredictable rainfall patterns affecting rain-fed agriculture practised by rural smallholder farmers, - Diminishing Soil health conditions on agricultural land, - Pest and disease outbreak, with rural farmers affected having little or no access to early warning systems, just to name a few So, how you are playing a part as a producer, consumer, policy maker, aggregator, advocate, earth resident in addressing this growing concern? #Feeding9BillionPeople #SDGs #sustainability #foodsustainability #WorldEnvironmentDay #GenerationRestoration #environment

Extreme weather is playing havoc with our breakfast tables. The fluctuation between droughts and floods severely affects the production of oranges, a key ingredient for our beloved juice. These conditions not only decrease the crop yield but push the prices up, straining the entire supply chain. It’s a pressing challenge that affects us all, from producers to consumers. However, there's a beacon of hope through climate-smart agriculture practices. By adopting such techniques, farmers can improve resilience against unpredictable weather, ensuring your morning juice remains affordable and accessible. It's time for us to embrace and promote sustainable practices. Find out more in our blog: https://lnkd.in/e945Eqjt #ClimateSmartAgriculture #ResilientFarming

On #worldenvironmentday it’s important to remember the role our farmers play in our society. Sure they put food on our plates but they also provide fuels for our cars, heat for our homes, fibre for our clothes and the ecosystems in which we live, work and play. If we erode these individuals from our production system and exclude them from the changes our food system and society faces, we will fail to reach our true potential. If your business is dependent on a farmer, visit those farms, seek ways to collaborate and let’s use our food system to build a better society. #foodsystem #agriculture #netzero #environment
