Incredibly exciting research, but not what I'd call a "cure" just yet. To me, it's only a true cure if it's accessible, affordable, and proven. Gene therapies like this show a lot of promise, but we're still in the very early stages. #SickleCellDisease #GeneTherapy #Healthcare

What if you paid for a multi-million dollar gene therapy treatment and it didn't work? Oscar L. Bronsther, MD, FACS and Carolina Escobar joined me this week on Self-Funded with Spencer for a deep dive on the economics behind gene and cell therapies, as well as how they'll change the marketplace. One of the ways that the therapy manufacturers are differentiating themselves is through warranties, which hold them accountable for the efficacy of their treatment. We dive a bit deeper into the complexities of these warranties on the full episode, but I do think these could be a catalyst for more accountability for high-price treatments throughout the entire healthcare industry.
