Hi, I'm Michelle Kashinsky. I'm an attorney with DSK Law in the Melbourne, FL office. Today I want to talk a little bit about how you can go about choosing an estate planning attorney. So one of the most important things to consider is whether or not they have experience with your particular need. So if you have a special needs child or you are a business owner or perhaps you just have a complex family situation, you're going to want to look for an attorney that has experience handling those types of scenarios. I think this next one is absolutely critical is that the attorney is a good listener. You want somebody who's going to really listen to your goals and to your concerns and craft a plan according to that, not someone who's just going to create is the standard set of documents. And you know that would apply to anyone. Let's make this very specific to your needs. We also want someone who's going to explain things clearly. Find somebody who can explain all the legalese and everything in a way that makes sense to you. I always tell my clients that I don't want them signing any documents unless they can assure me that they understand what they are saying. Again, I want you to find somebody that you're comfortable with. It's so important that you feel comfortable because you're going to talk about things that are very private, you know, things that are hard to think about. You want to be able to. Talk freely with somebody. One question I usually get is feast. You also want to be sure you understand how they charge. You know some attorneys will charge by the other, others by the document. You know some will just charge you a flat fee for an entire package. So you just want to know what there is to expect. And availability. You want to know what their office hours, where they're located, how quickly they return calls and emails. You just want to make sure that you're going to be able to get the help when you need it and not sit around and wait for weeks.
