Day 2 of my Cybersecurity Advent Calendar: Secure Your Online Shopping 🛒🔒 The holiday season often means more online shopping, but it’s also prime time for cybercriminals to strike. Protect yourself and your financial data with these essential tips: 1. Use Credit Cards or Trusted Payment Platforms Why it matters: Credit cards offer better fraud protection than debit cards, and trusted platforms like PayPal add an extra layer of security by acting as an intermediary between you and the retailer. Pro tip: Enable transaction notifications on your credit card or payment app so you can spot unauthorized activity immediately. 2. Avoid Public Wi-Fi for Shopping The risk: Public Wi-Fi networks are often unsecured, making it easy for hackers to intercept your data. What to do instead: Use your mobile data or a secure VPN (Virtual Private Network) to encrypt your connection when shopping on the go. 3. Stick to HTTPS Websites What to look for: The “HTTPS” in a website’s URL indicates it’s using encryption to protect your data. Most browsers also display a padlock icon next to the URL for secure sites. Warning: Some phishing websites mimic the look of legitimate retailers but lack HTTPS. Always double-check the URL. Stay alert, and don't let cybercriminals spoil your holidays! See you tomorrow for Tip #2. hashtag #CyberSecurity #AdventCalendar #StaySafeOnline #CISOLeadership
