In this video from the Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Commission, members of the Lived Experience Advisory Council answer these important questions: · What does valuing people with lived experience look like? · If lived experience was successfully embedded into policy making, what would be different in 10 years? · Why should government engage with people with lived experience? The Commission works to ensure that people with lived and living experience of domestic, family and sexual violence have opportunities to be at the centre of decisions made about them, their lives and their experience. Education is crucial!
Sarah Sherman is the Founder & CEO of We're Here For You Canada - we advocate for survivors, empower youth & provide free immediate supports to victims in emergency rooms after sexual, intimate partner & family violence.
Educate youth and newcomers... Generally, violence is a learned behaviour. Young people need to learn how to openly communicate in relationships so they can give and ask for consent, set boundaries, and speak up if they see or experience sexual violence. You can help by showing good behaviour, like being open about your own boundaries. At We're Here For You Canada - we believe that by allowing youth to understand the realities of coercive control, what is consent and safe boundaries, they are more likely to recognize red flags and green flags in relationships. #16daysofactivism #global campaign #every10minutesawomaniskilled #endviolenceagainstwomen #werehereforyou #every6daysinCanadaWomanMurdered #everyoneknowssomeone #healthyrelationships #redflagsgreenflags #youtharethefuture

On the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict, it is crucial to recognize the disproportionate impact experienced by women and girls in times of conflict, war, and global crises. Attacks on healthcare facilities exacerbate the challenges survivors of sexual violence face, hindering their access to vital medical and psychosocial support services. Together, let's stand in solidarity to combat this issue and work towards ending sexual violence in conflict. #EndRapeInWar #CRSV #sexualviolence

Nadia Murad joins U.S. Vice President Harris and fellow survivors to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict To mark the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict, Nadia joined U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, fellow survivors, and experts at the White House to call for more robust accountability mechanisms and survivor-centered approaches in the fight to end conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV). Referencing the UN Secretary-General’s recent report on the rise of CRSV in conflict zones around the world, Nadia emphasized the importance of recognizing warning signs in the lead up to conflict that indicate the potential for sexual violence and other mass atrocities. Echoing a sentiment shared by VP Harris, Nadia also highlighted that to prevent and eliminate CRSV, the international community needs to move beyond mere condemnation to actively using every legal mechanism available to hold perpetrators – and those who support them – accountable for their atrocities. Finally, she talked about the importance of supporting survivors, while encouraging those who work with them to utilize the Murad Code, documenting their experiences in a way that is safe, ethical, and effective in upholding their dignity and human rights. #MuradCode #JusticeForYazidis #EndCRSV #HumanRights https://lnkd.in/eeZjviEY

Due to deep-rooted #political, #socioeconomic, #cultural and institutional drivers of sexual and GBV in conflict, CRSV is predominantly perpetrated against girls and #women but is also experienced by boys, men and #LGBTIQ+ individuals. 🚨 Frequently and deliberately used as a weapon of #war, often terrorizing local populations believed to be supporters of their enemies, CRSV has many devastating impacts, inflicting long-term trauma for individuals and societies. ⬇ In this factsheet, we dive deep into the structural drivers of conflict-related sexual #violence and common misconceptions related to it. 💡 Valuable research, data and narrative have been conducted by the amazing Alexandra Lily Kather, an international justice practitioner and co-founder of The Emergent Justice Collective with the support of our also amazing Programme Coordinator, Aida Fatic!
