🖋️: Joint Statement Signed | The Sudan INGO Forum released a joint statement calling on the international community to not ignore the escalating crisis in Sudan and provided a list of recommendations for an effective response. Over a year into the conflict, 25.6 million are projected to face acute food insecurity or worse (IPC 3+) during the upcoming lean season – a nearly 40% increase over the last four months. The Sudan INGO Forum, which includes Concern Worldwide in partnership with 70 INGOs who are providing humanitarian and development assistance and peacebuilding interventions in #Sudan, calls for urgent action, with specific recommendations: ➡️ Reconvene the international community at the earliest possible opportunity to scale-up efforts to bring about an end to the hostilities and address barriers to scaling up humanitarian response; ➡️ Coordinate diplomatic efforts to push for unfettered humanitarian access using all cross-line and cross-border routes; ➡️ Increase the access of mutual aid initiatives and other local responders to flexible and predictable funding through the removal of burdensome compliance processes and ensuring transparency in the amounts of funding delivered in support of local actors; ➡️ Support INGOs to urgently scale-up multi-purpose cash initiatives as the first line response to famine; ➡️ Ensure that pledges made in Paris are dispersed in the next month, prioritizing funding to those with a functional presence in areas of highest need. Despite a pledging conference in April, in which $2.2 billion was pledged, the Humanitarian Response Plan remains severely underfunded with only 17% of the required funding received, and attention on the conflict remains critically low. The recent article from ODI’s Humanitarian Practice Network is a thought-provoking reminder for all of us in the #humanitarian sector to rethink what true reform requires. We're pleased that our report with Humanitarian Outcomes on local responses to the #Ukraine conflict was featured https://lnkd.in/ekenf4tJ. At its core, the article's message strongly resonates with us. In our own reflection, particularly through our recent internal evaluation of the Humanitarian Rapid Research Initiative (HRRI), we’ve recognised that producing impactful reports is only the first step. While change associated with mega-crises may not always be immediately visible, it often manifests in more subtle ways—through shifts in relationships, reframing of key issues, and the adaptation of systemic processes. To drive real change, we must create space for difficult conversations around findings from such reports, invest in exploratory #research and #innovation, and make a concerted effort to meet humanitarians where they are, while understanding the daily barriers that hold back change. We are already taking steps in this direction. With the support of partners like ALNAP, Humanitarian Advisory Group, GLOW Consultants (Private) Limited, and others, and through increased responsive funding, we are committed to moving beyond analysis and driving actionable change. ***Supporting Sudan Amidst Crisis: USAID’s Commitment to Humanitarian Response*** At a Sudanese Diaspora event in Washington, DC, USAID Deputy Administrator Isobel Coleman underscored the urgency of the ongoing crisis in Sudan, where conflict has led to the world’s largest hunger and displacement emergency. With over 25 million people experiencing acute hunger and more than one million on the brink of famine, the situation is dire. USAID is responding with $1.6 billion in humanitarian aid since FY 2023, supporting more than 30 organizations to deliver life-saving assistance across Sudan. Local organizations remain the backbone of this effort, thanks to their deep community trust and local knowledge. Key highlights include: --$31 million to 45 local partners for food security, health, protection, and WASH initiatives. --Efforts to support Sudanese farmers through resilience-building programs and livestock vaccination. --Trauma awareness programs to help communities cope and recover, especially tailored for children. Deputy Administrator Coleman also emphasized the critical role of the Sudanese diaspora in advocating for peace and humanitarian aid. "Your voices are essential," she said, urging continued efforts to push for lasting peace in Sudan. As the crisis continues, USAID stands firm in its commitment to support the people of Sudan and to work towards a future of peace and recovery. #SudanCrisis #HumanitarianAid #USAID #Diaspora #PeaceBuilding #SudaneseDiaspora https://lnkd.in/eWBTRiEM

The Lebanon Humanitarian INGO Forum (LHIF) and the Lebanon Humanitarian and Development NGO Forum (LHDF), are deeply alarmed by the escalating conflict in Lebanon. For now, the members of LHIF and LHDF (including Folkekirkens Nødhjælp (DanChurchAid) are making all efforts necessary to be ready to respond to an escalation of conflict. Lebanon hosts the largest number of refugees per capita and per square kilometer in the world. The situation demands immediate attention and coordinated efforts to avoid the further destabilization of Lebanon with wider ramifications for the region, and to bring an end to human suffering. https://lnkd.in/djWsDuQX

Fascinating piece here by Ed Schenkenberg van Mierop in The New Humanitarian on the crisis in northern Ethiopia. Lots to learn here on the frustrations and failure of UN-led collective efforts as well as what should be learned from them. "Endless global discussions on strengthening capacity, localising decision-making, and connecting humanitarian and development assistance have done little to avoid repeated failures. Accountability for this is long overdue." https://lnkd.in/eRdDGvZg
The UN-led response in Ethiopia was a failure. It’s time for accountability.

This article sheds light on the often-overlooked humanitarian crises that persist beyond the headlines of Gaza and Ukraine. Each of these situations demands our urgent attention: 🔴 Sudan: The war between the RSF and the regular army has displaced 10 million people, with 26 million facing food insecurity. The risk of famine looms large, threatening millions with starvation. 🔴 Myanmar: Over 3 million displaced and worsening abuses highlight a deteriorating situation. Intense conflict and human rights violations, including forced conscriptions and airstrikes, add to the crisis. 🔴 Haiti: Rampant gang violence has displaced 578,000 people, with acute hunger affecting almost half the population. International efforts are underway, but challenges persist in stabilizing the nation. 🔴 West African Sahel: Juntas in Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger intensify counterinsurgency campaigns, leading to widespread displacement and suffering. 🔴 Horn of Africa: Extreme weather, ongoing conflicts, and political instability have left nearly 64 million people in need of aid and protection. 🔴 DR Congo: Intense regional conflict and a failed coup have exacerbated the displacement crisis, with 7.3 million people internally displaced and 23.4 million food insecure. 🔴 Syria: More than 16 million Syrians need aid amid ongoing conflict and economic collapse. Funding shortfalls hinder relief efforts. 🔴 Yemen: A decade of war continues, with severe hunger affecting 17.6 million people. The humanitarian response is critically underfunded. 🔴 Venezuela: An upcoming election could impact the future of a country struggling with economic collapse and severe humanitarian needs. 🔴 Afghanistan: With 23.7 million people in need of assistance, including 4 million acutely malnourished children, the humanitarian situation remains dire amid ongoing political and economic instability. Each of these crises demands our collective awareness and action. Let’s amplify these voices and advocate for the support they desperately need. #HumanitarianCrisis #GlobalAid #InternationalSupport

Let's take a moment to stay informed about critical situations in some of the world's most affected regions. 🌎 As global citizens, we cannot remain silent. Now more than ever, it's essential to use our voices and platforms to advocate for those who cannot. Gaza: The humanitarian crisis in Gaza is heartbreaking. The conflict has left millions displaced and in dire need of basic necessities like healthcare, clean water, and shelter. The international community must push harder for a ceasefire and long-term peace solutions. It's time to speak out against the injustices and demand urgent humanitarian aid. Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC): The DRC has been plagued by decades of conflict, resulting in severe human rights violations and massive displacement. Public health crises, including Ebola outbreaks, further exacerbate the situation. We must amplify the voices of those suffering and support organizations working to bring stability and health to the region. Yemen: Yemen's humanitarian crisis is among the worst in the world. Famine, disease, and ongoing conflict have devastated the population, with over 80% in need of aid. This crisis demands our attention and action. We must urge our leaders to prioritize humanitarian assistance and peace negotiations. Syria: After years of civil war, Syria remains in a state of severe humanitarian distress. The massive displacement and ongoing violence cannot be ignored. Let's use our platforms to advocate for refugees and support efforts to bring peace and rebuild the nation. Myanmar: The political turmoil in Myanmar following the military coup has led to widespread violence and human rights abuses. It's crucial to stand with the people of Myanmar, calling for the restoration of democracy and protection of human rights. We cannot turn a blind eye to these atrocities. Let's not just be passive observers. We have the power to make a difference by raising awareness, supporting humanitarian efforts, and urging our leaders to take action. Use your voice. Use your platform. Stand in solidarity with those who need it most. #GlobalIssues #SpeakOut #AdvocateForChange #Gaza #DRC #Yemen #Syria #Myanmar #HumanRights

Monday 15th April marks one year of devastating fighting in #Sudan. In the past 12 months, we have seen the devastating impact that the continuation of hostilities has had on the population, particularly women, children, older adults and people with disabilities. #Humanitarianagencies' ability to deliver aid has also been eroded due to the violence. As part of a group of 23 international humanitarian organizations, we wish to make a call to action about the devastating conflict-induced #hunger in Sudan, where over 8.5 million people have been #displaced, and 17.7 million people are projected to face acute #foodinsecurity. We urge all conflict parties, the United Nations Security Council, and the international community to take immediate measures to prevent the escalation of the #hungercrisis in Sudan and to ease undue impediments to #humanitarianassistance. https://lnkd.in/dnFDkpTv CARE, MedGlobal, Welthungerhilfe (WHH), Medical Teams International, Concern Worldwide, SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL, Mercy Corps, Action Against Hunger | ACF-USA, Humanity for Development and Prosperity Orgnization., Première Urgence Internationale, Plan International, International Rescue Committee, ALIMA, Save the Children International, Triangle Génération Humanitaire (TGH), Norwegian Refugee Council, World Vision, Nonviolent Peaceforce, Alight, ADRA International, Läkarmissionen / LM International, Norwegian Church Aid / Kirkens Nødhjelp, Insecurity Insight, ZOA VITA, Link2007 - Cooperazione in rete, VOICE EU
