Great to be here at Dubai Sugar Conference as a long-standing sponsor. Favourable weather conditions and a hyper efficient Brazilian supply chain saw record yields in 2023 to mitigate supply risks and price hikes in EU and beyond. Below normal rainfall in November is only going to heap strain on Brazilian producers for FY24. Will we see repeat price hikes later on in the year? These are the conversations I am having with clients this week. S&P spot pricing and analytics has never been more essential for market visibility. #sugarindustry #commoditymarkets #ethanol #spglobalproud

PS: maybe there's a pinch of speculation too?

In a notable development affecting household budgets across Pakistan, the prices of cooking oil and ghee have increased by up to Rs80 per kilogram. This rise reflects the surge in global commodity prices, particularly palm oil, which has jumped from $900 to $1,200 per ton—a steep increase of $300 in a short period. The rise in palm oil prices has left local manufacturers facing higher raw material costs, prompting them to adjust retail prices for cooking oil and ghee. As a result, essential commodities like these have seen price hikes between Rs20 and Rs80 per kilogram in recent weeks. #DekhoPakistan

What are we to do, coffee prices are about to increase. According to this article Arabica prices are up, gulp...actually slurp, 70% to $3.175/pound the highest since 1977. If this isn't a sign about inflation increasing, it is perhaps a sign that the Fed will stop lowering interest rates, at least until the price of Arabica beans drops or stabilizes. Just to put this in perspective, if you get your coffee from Dunkin or Starbucks prices, which are already high, are expected to increase 10-20% by 2025. The price of arabica is on the rise with no signs of stopping. Recent reports indicate that arabica futures hit a 13-year high on 16 September, and prices surged by 40% in 2024 due to dry weather conditions in Brazil leading to supply shortages. Additionally, robusta prices have also reached record levels, surpassing arabica in Brazil's top-producing state.
