Not all assumptions are created equal! For prestressed concrete design, we make some key simplifications: Concrete & steel are elastic heroes (mostly!). We neglect some creep for easier calculations. Plane sections stay plane! We assume bending causes straight lines to stay straight. No tension in concrete! We design to keep concrete in compression, thanks to prestressing. These assumptions help us analyze prestressed elements effectively. But remember, real-world behavior can be a bit more complex! #civilengineering #prestressedconcrete #design

Slab Thickness in Building Construction A crucial factor in the design of any concrete construction project is the thickness of the slab. Choosing the right thickness guarantees structural integrity, longevity, and usability. Several factors, including the intended building usage, structural load requirements, concrete strength, and applicable building codes, must be taken into consideration when determining the proper slab thickness. Over time, thinner slabs are more prone to damage and cracking. On the other hand, overly thick slabs increase expenses and waste material. So striking the ideal balance is essential. Sufficient slab thickness is beneficial. 1) Maintain intended loads without interruption. 2) Resist Cracking and deflection. 3) Accommodate shear stresses. 4) Enhance moisture resistance in grade slabs. #Projects, #Construction, #Design, #StructuralAnalysis, https://lnkd.in/dAkhunny

Grinding and sealing concrete can dramatically change the appearance of a concrete slab. If you're looking for an architectural finish, this is a great, less expensive way to go without going to a full polished concrete floor. Though we do those too.

Q: What is Mix design? A: Mix design involves the selection of appropriate constituent materials and proportioning them to produce the required concrete properties. The proportioning depends on factors such as the required fresh and hardened properties of the concrete as influenced by the environment in which the concrete will be located and the method of construction. Why do relatively new buildings form cracks on the facade? Well, it’s a well-known fact that new building materials come with new challenges. Let’s take a closer look at renders, for example. In the past, the compressive strength of a render used to be lower than that of the masonry. Therefore, cracks were not a problem. Modern building materials such as insulated bricks or AAC blocks, however, have a compressive strength that’s significantly lower than that of the render. Dimensional changes in the masonry thus lead to cracks in the render. Watch the video below to see compressive strengths at work. Luckily, there is a valid solution: reinforced render! 👉 If you want to learn more about the different types of render, take a look at our product page – it provides a really good overview: https://bit.ly/47Gi88n #TeamWallSystem #plaster #construction #vinnapas
